Why does not the Church update herself to fit modern times?

This kind of argument is defended every day by anti-catholics and "liberal catholics".

"The Church must update herself. Times have changed. The Church is old-fashioned, is out of reality and will ultimately loose all her followers if she does not get in line with modern times. It is ridiculous to continue fighting abortion, homosexualism, divorce, birth-control etc.”

It is interesting to look for the assumptions behind this reasoning.

First of all, it is the consequence of evolutionist positivism: New is Good, Old is Bad. Interestingly, not even Darwin defended this: for him, New was “new”, and if it were good, it would last; otherwise, it would be “selected out”. It was Comte who made our society believe in this nonsense.

Besides that, those who contend that homosexualism, divorce and free sex are new things, that is, developments come from the evolution of society, only show their incredible historical ignorance.

If the Church is “conservative” (an adjective used derogatively), they are “reactionary”.
