Newcastle's best defender

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I'd like to nominate myself for this accolade. After defending The Monarchy and The Good Shepherd in succesive weeks I must be a contender. Don't know how successful I was but clearly as brave as a lion to take on the tasks! :-)

Newcastle's best defender was at Spanish City from c.1977 to 1985, along with other timeless classics such as Space Invaders, Pacman, Robotron and Joust.

If you can prevent free headers, Jonno, the job's yours as the rest of our defenders don't seem too interested. ;-)

Did you used to be brave enough to blow up all the robots along the bottom and head into deep space? Smart bombs at the ready, here come those swarmers. Reckon Asteroids Deluxe just pipped it for that horrible polygon thing that broke up into dozens of smaller craft.

save your smart bombs for the pods, it's the only way.

Anyone know of a decent site for downloads of the clasics, I've got a great Pac man & Space invaders but somehow, misile command, defender, scramble have not transfered well.

Great defender my @rse! The entire thread immediately blown away by a bunch of anoraks!

I withdraw my nomination. :-)

Jonno - blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. ;o{)

To which Paul Simon's reply (in the track Blessed) is :-

Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit.
Blessed is the lamb whose blood flows.
Blessed are the sat upon, Spat upon, Ratted on,
O Lord, Why have you forsaken me?

And then there is Getty's famous line :-

The meek shall inherit the Earth, - but not the mineral rights.

But surely, just looking at the semantics of the thing, it is far more likely that :-

Blessed are the meek for they shall inhibit the Earth.

Without wishing to offend anyone ...

Scramble! Bloody hell, how did I forget that one? Fantastic game.

I must admit that when I win the lottery I shall be getting the old Star Wars and T2 pinball tables installed first chance I get. We're talking weeks on those bloody things. Dang magnets, get you every time but you still come back for more.

Wasn't it:

'The meek shall inherit the earth - in 6 foot by 3 foot plots...'?

Dave L-F, have a mosey around the MAME site. You can download the emulator from here and - if you can find the roms by doing a websearch - turn your computer into hundreds of the buggers. There's a similar pinball emulator too.

Nothing beats a real pin ball machine - I've got a re-con Demolition Man machine which is very addictive - a snip at 900 quid.

Blessed are the cheese makers

It was "blessed are the Greek" on Paramount the other night.
