Update on 'Protruding frame on new M6TTL eyepiece'

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Took my M6TTL with the hard metal eyepiece frame (which is scratching my glasses) back to the dealer. Compared mine with three different used M6's: four different thicknesses of rubber ranging from effectively none (mine) to barely perceptible (rubberlike surface but no give to it at all) to thin but usable, to soft and almost cushy. You could see the difference in the overall thickness of the frames. Am sending new camera back to have eyepiece replaced with a proper one. Seems the layer of rubber varies a lot from unit to unit.

Even though I read that all M6's have rubber eyepieces, I didn't think so for my 0.85 TTL because like Mike says, there is no give to it, only a thin layer of hard, matt-black substance around the rim. One would expect that at this price level, manufacture would be a lot more uniform than this.

I wonder how much would it cost to have real rubber put on my M6? My glasses have plastic lenses.

I find that the rubber ring on my .58 leaves smudges on my specs and the view loses contrast. Dead irritating. Polishing glasses and front VF window too often.

Yes the rubber is very annoying, constantly transferring grease to the glasses. I wish mine had a hard plastic surround, like my R, which does not scratch my glasses.
