More troubles -- Joy will be off still longer, I got a nasty virus

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Joy's having still more problems in getting back up and running, and they said it would be a week or so until she gets on line again.

Meanwhile, I got sent that nasty W32.Klez.gen virus via email. I spent hours quarantining the stupid thing and rebooting, but it's still in the quarantine...and I don't know how to get the darn thing out yet. So if you don't have Norton, GET IT.

julie........the only way that I figured out how to get it out of quarantine was to uninstall Norton's and it will ask you if you want it deleted, of course then you have to mess around with reinstalling and updating. The only reason I found that out was because I bought the Internet Security program and for some odd reason it occasionally goes belly up and won't let me in line.(another whole annoying story) The older version of Norton's would let you delete really easy. It will not hurt anything to leave it in the quarantine if you don't want to mess with it. It won't go anywhere.

Have you tried the housecall free virus scan and clean by PCillian yet?

No....how does one find the Housecall site? I've seen mention of it by doing a Google search, but couldn't find where to contact them. I'm getting desperate. I can't get the doggone thing out. I've tried two fixes so far and they haven't worked.

Heres the address for housecall virus check. It takes a bit of time to run, but is effective and FREE.

Just sneaking in to say hi -- I am at the library. I am going NUTS without my computer. I was over here earlier in the week and tried to say hi, but of course, Lusenet was down! And I didn't have time to find our backup site. {sigh}

Probably ANOTHER week before I get the dang thing back. I might as well tell you now, I spilled iced tea (sweetened, of course!) onto the keyboard, and that means the whole computer, since I have a laptop. The local Gateway store check it out and said the keyboard needs replacing, but everything else was okay, so it has been shipped off to Texas. Yesterday, I came home, too late to find anyone still in the office, to find a message that the repair will be DOUBLE what I was quoted by my local Gateway. No explanation either, so now I have to call Monday to discuss this and (maybe) authorize. THEN they will BEGIN the repairs. Argh!

I'll probably get it back just in time to go out of town next weekend for one of those "family meetings" (where did I put my Guido outfit?). Well, isn't that just typical? Of course, they could make me wait until a week from Monday . . . . Grrrrrrrrr.

I doubt I'll have time to read every thing here until I get back on line. The library has a 30 minute limit.
