The best places to eat seafood in Atlanta
-- Terry Kearns (atlantaoyster@aol.com), April 25, 2002
I'm no connoisseur, my benchmark is the fried seafood platter and since it is so hard to mess up a fried shrimp I measure by the fish on the platter. I think you can get great fish at most of the fine restaurants and there are a bunch of them. That said, in my neighborhood (close-in northeast Atlanta):
Marra's Seafood Grill on Cheshire Bridge has upscale seafood. A lot of folks I know really like it.

The Atlanta Fish Market on Pharr Road is very popular. It has a truly giant fish (30 feet tall) out front, the picture is on the website. It's like a coastal seafood house, big, a wait for dinner, big menu, good service, and quite good in my opinion

The Colonnade on Cheshire Bridge Road has truly great fried shrimp and I like the seafood platter better than most coastal restaurants' platters. That's not the only thing that's good there. My wife gets the vegitable plate.

Fat Matt's Chicken Shack on Piedmont Road is right next to Fat Matt's Rib Shack (barbecue). It's a dive that serves fried catfish and whitefish in a paper tray. I enjoy a fix there once in a while. I like the barbeque too.

The best place to buy fish is probably the Dekalb Farmers Market east of Decatur on East Ponce De Leon Ave. Decatur GA. It's an extraordinary place and worth a visit just for fun: http://www.dekalbfarmersmarket.com/
