35mm summilux and summicron

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Previous message already discuss some about 35mm summicron ( Pre-ASPH) preformance. As we knew that the latest 7 element version consider as the best boken lens, but is any people out there did compare it with 35'lux Pre ASPH ? Which lens favorite in which area? I didn't find much information about this but it seems interest to me because the 7 element formula seem very close to the 35'con. Thanks for all information in advance.

Jose there's a ton of information out there regarding the various versions of Leica 35mm lenses of all apertures, all of it subjective and much of it contradictory. I'm not trying to dismiss your questions but in the final analysis you will need to borrow or rent samples of these lenses and shoot them yourself to make the right choice for your own photographic preferences.

Jay, can you direct me some link that I can find more information, the location I'm at here didn't allow me to rent this lens.

It has been suggested that the pre-Asph Summilux is a pre- Asph Summicron with an emergency f/1.4 aperture (Not by me mind you). The performance of the pre-Asph Summilux at f/1.4 is VERY POOR so I would save my pennies and dimes for a Summilux Asph ( have seen $1200US) or stick with the Summicron.
