Geez, why does Doug even bother asking what the H.O.s want to do with the room. It must be in the script or something because he does not listen to any of their suggestions. Buddy is going to pissed that he took his cieling fan!

-- Anonymous, April 27, 2002

Yes, Doug does seem to show little consideration for HO unput. HO: "I can't stand polka dots, orange, and I am allergic to feathers." Doug: "Ok great, cause we have got some pumpkin colored paint that we were going to do a spot pattern with, and then I got a great bargain for this down comforter!" Sheeesh...

-- Anonymous, April 27, 2002

Doug's room on the first episode (the blue "pretty" room) actually looked quite good. I was impressed. His room on the second episode.....I dont know......those couches were ugly ugly. The fabric he chose for them was atrocious! And how bout the picture he put up of the female H.O. One other thing I found curious, was that with all the complaining about the leopard sofa, there was absolutely no mention of it during the reveal.......strange. Maybe I missed something because I was darting between the kitchen and the family room while the show was on.

-- Anonymous, April 28, 2002

And what exactly IS "zen goth"? I don't even think Doug knew.

-- Anonymous, April 28, 2002

He just made it up.

And Krystina (Kris), Amy Wyn makes me glad to be a guy. Heheheh...

And did you notice how Doug and Laurie were talking about themselves? Laurie was like 'I know everyone thinks I just hate ceiling fans,' and Doug said something about how everyone thinks he's this horrible guy who purposely ruins people's houses and furniture.

You think they read this board? If any TS producers are reading this, please mail me an autographed picture of Amy Wyn.

-- Anonymous, April 28, 2002

Yeah and I want a autographed photograph as well...

-- Anonymous, April 29, 2002

I'm so glad I came across this board! I'm totally addicted to TS! I read an article on entertainment weekly online, and it called Doug the "resident bitch" or something like that. That's totally perfect! I think the funny thing is that, however much we may hate Doug and Hilde (and we do...), I think we'd all agree that the show is not nearly as interesting without their tension and dynamic. And, their designs don't ALWAYS suck...

I think my favorite designer, personality wise, is Frank. Although his designs usually take two or three steps over the top, he is by far the most humble and willing to compromise, which seems to make his rooms the most well-received. I don't particularly care for his style generally, though. I'd like to see Vern or Laurie in my room, and I'd love to work with Frank or Gen, since I wouldn't have to live in the room when it was done. My husband has a crush on Gen. He thinks she's got a huge wild-chick inner child thing going on. Thanks for starting this thread. It rocks!

-- Anonymous, April 29, 2002

Yeah... Gen's pretty nice... I'd like to work with either her or Frank. (again, he seems fun, but I wouldn't let him paint my house)

-- Anonymous, April 29, 2002

I would love to work with Gen, but she's also the person I would most want to decorate my room. Frank seems like he would be fun to work with but what's up with the sweating??! every episode he has huge sweat rings before they even start working.

-- Anonymous, May 01, 2002

Hmm... I never took the odor aspect into mind... I think I'd prefer to work with Gen.

-- Anonymous, May 01, 2002

Where did the lepard couch go to?????? It was a great looking piece. And the picture of the HO made her look like the other kind of HO. She should have been furious. Very bad taste, Doug. It was obviously a picture for private consumption only. Does it seem to all of you that we keep seeing the same rooms again and again? The padded head board, the homemade art, the sconces behind the bed, the same piles of homemade pillows on the beds.....How about some unusual furniture arrangments, some unusual window shades, an African theme, a really feminine ruffled bedroom. Just some change

-- Anonymous, May 02, 2002

You're right, Frank seems to be sweating even when it's cold out! What's up with that?

-- Anonymous, May 02, 2002

I think I have to agree with the foodwriter, things do seem to be getting a little repetitive. How bout Laurie and her Squares. I mean, every single piece of art that I have seen her do is some sort of abstract square design. Its getting so that when she does a room you tend to expect it from her. I believe they came to a consenses about the leopard couch and it was left in another room. Doug was tormenting the H.O. about covering it up with Pink Paisley. And yes, unless it was scripted with the H.O.s prior permission, I think Doug may have gone a little far with that picture. Its too bad they don't have the designers with the H.O.s during the reveals, it would be interesting to see some "Full Contact Trading Spaces."

-- Anonymous, May 02, 2002

Yeah... That was highly inapropriate... Uh... If they don't want it, I'll take it.

I just saw the Sorority house episode. It really didn't look that hot out, but Frank looked like he just wrestled a crocodile or something. His room wasn't all that great either. Waaaay too much artsy stuff.

Laurie's was okay, but I don't see anyone sitting on those wooden 'seats'... painfull.

However, those were the best Home Owners I've seen so far... heh...yeah.

-- Anonymous, May 02, 2002

I would bet that Frank takes a blood pressure medication that makes him sweat. Some of these meds do strange things. and he certainly dooks like someone who might have high blood pressure.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Anyone catch the polka-dot playroom? Swing and a miss, Gen. HO's were NOT happy. Looked like they painted the behemoth puppet theater with leftover black paint from Vern's room (which was exquisite as ususal).

-- Anonymous, May 05, 2002

Well, when I realized that it wasn't a ROOM but an open area on the second floor I understood why the homeowners were a little freaked. You can probably see those polka dots from the foyer. Not cool. And what happened to their t.v. and computer?

Sometimes the designers just assume people can put stuff in other rooms, but well, sometimes you can't.

But I did like the tire swings and the puppet theater.

-- Anonymous, May 05, 2002

I wasn't entirely sure about the tire swing thing. I don't have a ton of respect for Ty as a carpenter (he seems to screw up pretty frequently) and I keep picturing the swings pulling out.

I'm also not sure what little kid that room was designed for. Even at two or three, I would have hated that room. The colors, the puppet theatre (why?), the stupid art project. It seemed like what Gen thought she would like if she were in a kid's body.

-- Anonymous, May 05, 2002

It seemed like the tire swings were so close to the wall that not much swinging could actually take place. Those kids also seemed too young to be staging puppet shows. Wasn't one of them a baby?! The room seemed empty and unfinished with nothing but a few boxes left in the middle. Poor Gen, she meant well.

-- Anonymous, May 05, 2002

Did anyone see what happened to the train of boxes for holding toys? And those swings were not usable, one was right up against the left wall and the other was right in front of a door. I would bet that they never checked to see where the ceiling joists were when Gen decided on this idea. The castle was kind of cute when it was still white (primer) but suddenly it was that ugly gray /black. What did that look like from the front door. There was no furniture in that room. Gen took away the couch and gave them floor pillows. You just know that room was going to be redone immediately. They need thier TV so the kids can watch videos not puppet theater. Gen needs to get a reality check. This is not how people live. In fact only Frank seems to have any idea about how people really live. All of them just remove all of the things we all need with no thought about how people live. They hate our TV's, ceiling fans, dressers (where do they think we keep our underwear and socks?)and apparently our kids. And did you see what Frank diod to that black couples living room? They had some really great art (it needed some orgainzation and styling) but Frank moved it all out and replaced it with rough wood sculptures that were his idea of African art. What happened to that expensive art?? And this idea of putting the TV behind a big klutzy piece of plywood with a "granary" disign on it....bad boy Frank. You should sweat over that one!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, May 06, 2002

franks sweats probably, and i know i'm going out on a limb here, because he's fat. stage lights and fat people dont mix. do you think the show would be better in a half hour format a la "changing rooms". and do you think most homeowners now hide their good furniture and posessions and put some crap in the room so if they paint it or whatever they could care less?

-- Anonymous, May 06, 2002

I have to agree with the Foodwriter .. that castle puppet thing looked a whole lot better with just primer. The black grayish color was simply awful and those kids looked why to young to swinging on tire swings inside. Next thing you know they'll be hanging from the chandelier!!! The spots and/or dots made me dizzy I can just imagine what the H.O.'s thought. Awful work Gen .. simply awful and ugly ....

-- Anonymous, May 06, 2002

I have to say I thought the puppet theater itself was kinda cool...if they had painted it a different color. I didn't really like the rest of the room (not a big fan of polka dots). And those tire swings...I don't think I would allow my children to swing on them. I'd be afraid they would come out of the ceiling because, knowing Trading Spaces and their tendency to rush everything, they probably weren't attached securely.

-- Anonymous, May 06, 2002

I saw the episode on Sunday for the first time where Vern lost his voice. Poor Vern. What a trouper!

And I LOVED that bed he made in that ep with the fabric that was weaved on the headboard. Very cool.

-- Anonymous, May 06, 2002

.....Gen loved the room, but the H.O.s didn't. Did you see the female H.O.s face during the reveal? She definately hated it! And the comment "is that a kitchen sponge?" when referring to Gen's wacky art. That was great. Not only that but the children (toddlers actually) were just too young to take advantage of any of Gen's ideas. Lets face it, nobodys going to be using those Tire Swings. The Puppet Theatre Castle thing had promise until it was painted the same colour as my Char-Broil. I agree with the other posts, that room was probably redone very soon after the TS crew left. Also, no TV, or computer, and where are the Adults supposed to sit when they are in the room supervising their children. Even though Gen's heart was probably in the right place, she did not look at the big picture before designing this room. As for Vern's room............what can I say, simply outstanding as always.

Did anyone see the episodes tonight? I used to think Hilde and Doug were out of control and indifferent to the homeowner's feelings but after tonight's episode I longed for the good old days when they would insist on doing what they wanted. I think at this stage of the game people know what to expect from Trading Spaces and should just suck it up and do what the designers have planned. I really wanted to see that carpet dyed orange. Frank's room seemed especially heinous tonight. His artwork is just awful. I didn't get all the excitement about Laurie's china cabinet. They wanted storage and she made a display unit that could only hold 7 plates!!

-- Anonymous, May 12, 2002

Yes, that was an episode ripe with controversy. Is it just me or is Paige getting more annoying with each episode. I think dying the carpet was a typical Hilde thing to do, however, I didn't think that it would be as destructive as some of her previous projects. Orange carpet though.....come on, thats a 70's thing. The H.O.s comments about the resale factor was a farce. If they were going to sell their house, changing the flooring in that room would not have been a big deal. I was surprised that Hilde didn't get her way there.

And Paige's comments that, "well, I hope you don't mind if the room isn't a completely transformed room, there won't be much change here." That was in my opinion a dumb thing to say (just one of many from her) because when Hilde was finished, I thought there was still a big difference from what it was before, and it actually looked good.

I thought Doug's Barn style room was cool. The H.O. had reservations about it, but I had to agree with Doug when he said that children would be using the room so it was appropriate. He also seemed to be flirting with that female H.O. quite a bit. Its kind of wierd to see Doug sucking up to a H.O.

I agree with the previous post about the China cabinet from Laurie's project. I could sort of see what she was trying to do there, but it was ugly looking.

Frank caught Vern's cold!

-- Anonymous, May 12, 2002

There was an article in today's AJC about the show, and specifically about Ty, Vern and Hilda, since they all live in Atlanta.

Ty is 37 people. 37! I would've thought 33 at the oldest, but that he would tell everyone he's 29. Vern actually is 33, and Hilda is 41. They had photos of each of them in a room in their house, but none of them were big enough to really tell what they were like.

-- Anonymous, May 12, 2002

Okay, okay. Gen IS a GOOD person. She is NOT self-absorbed. She is rather funny. She does seem to use her body to surf across a lot of countertops and tables. I think I'm jealous. I want to do that.

Carpet stained orange is HILDACIOUS! Thank goodness the neighbor said "No!" !

I think VERN is WONDERFUL! Sweet, intelligent, kind, thoughtful, creative, and strong. I want him to marry my Asian daughter. They would make a darling couple.

Laurie is a favorite, too, as is Frank. I picked up on the "nappy" description and was a bit surprised, and I laughed my head off when sweet Frank asked, "Is it too obvious?" when the African-American couple said the animal skin was not a good idea for their African- American friends. The sad thing is is that the animal print WOULD have jazzed up the room and made it look really sharp. BUT, yes, it was too obvious!

Perhaps they need a nice African-American designer? Maybe they could replace HILDY!!! YES YES YES YES.

The home owner on the episode where Hilde wanted to dye the carpet orange needed to get a grip. She signed up for the show knowing that the room was going to get a complete change. And she acted like a complete b*****!!!! When she heard want Hilde had planned. She totally screwed the whole design and left the room looking half finished. She should of went for it and dyed the carpet.

And IMO Paige makes the show a lot more interesting and energetic!!!

-- Anonymous, May 14, 2002

I just had to respond........IMO Paige is a royal pain-in-the-you know what! I find her totally annoying. Please......bring back Alex. I agree in some aspects about the room, but Paige and her "Orange carpet can and will work in this room if you want to go ahead yourself and do it." Did you see the H.O.s after she said that? They were like "yeah right...hehehe." Paige is always too quick to jump on the designers bandwagon. Her exagerated perkiness is enough to make me yak! She actually made more of a deal out of the carpet dyeing (or lack of) than Hilde did.

I do agree in some aspect, when you sign on to the show, anything goes. Its just that when Hilde attempts these types of projects, its usually a disaster on wheels! Look at the painted couch debacle, among others. I think the H.O. was real glad it didn't get dyed! And I have been told that dye on carpet sometimes has a tendency to wear off........yikes! "Everyone in America knows that I can rip this carpet up if I want to." Well, why didn't she then? Hilde is kind of partial to subfloor anyway........isn't she?

-- Anonymous, May 14, 2002

Where do you find time to actually memorize what they said, word for word? ... and yes I do agree that it was Paige that was making the carpet discussion a whole lot bigger. She just wouldn't shutup about it!!

-- Anonymous, May 15, 2002

Well......I don't memorize anything, its just excerpts from the show that I find amusing, and like to share in this forum. I really don't think I have them totally correct word for word, but hopefully I am close. My memory lane memory is not THAT good.

I just saw the infamous 'moss on the wall' episode...

That was just sad. Thankfully, I don't think Gen has ever screwed up a room that bad again.

I liked when that guy was talking to Amy, and she said she was happy she was just the carpenter. Heheh...

-- Anonymous, May 15, 2002

I just saw the Moss yesterday myself. It was crazy that both Hilde and Gen destroyed the HO's floors on the same episode. That was the only room I've seen Gen do (aside from the polka dot playroom)that I thought was just hideous. There was just so much of the moss and little else. The slate floor looked dangerous as Hell. That other guy had those black walls coming though, he was such a freak with his teddy bears!

Y'all are funny. Really. Very different from the homogenized board on delphi. Used to be a nice board before the advent of huge dancing signatures and the hand-slapping for being somewhat opinionated. I still get amazed when I witness the huge following this show has and it's broad appeal. I tried going back on this site to see if y'all had postings from earlier in the 2001 year. I wanted to see if anyone had funny, nasty, nice, witty, sarcastic, or complimentary things to say about me & mine. Just for a kick, let's see how many of you are on the ball. We were on the show during the 1st season. The clue to our episode is two sentences back. I had fun reading all y'alls posts. I haven't been able to watch more than a few new season episodes--by the sounds of it I missed some doozies! I'll check back later--Karen

-- Anonymous, May 19, 2002

Hmm... Okay, so I figure you were on the episode involving kickballs... Hmmm...

Well, enough about that. What was Alex like? And did you have Amy for a carpenter? Heheh...

Seriously, it's cool to meet someone who was actually on the show. If I can ever figure out which episode, it'll be even nicer!

-- Anonymous, May 20, 2002

Hey........it sounds like it might be the episode where Vern did that Kids bedroom in the soccer theme. Although I don't remember the H.O. sounding southern.

-- Anonymous, May 20, 2002

Oh, right... I only saw the first couple of minutes of that one, and had to leave... Doh!

-- Anonymous, May 20, 2002

If you live in ATL 11Alive news is doing a spot on TS and its 3 Atlantans, Ty, Vern & Hilda, every morning at 6.

-- Anonymous, May 20, 2002

Darn... I don't think I live in Atlanata. (that is what you meant, right?)

Eh. No matter. I didn't see you mention Amy Wynn in that list.

-- Anonymous, May 20, 2002

Was it the episode where Doug made everything out of balls? with the bowling ball coffee table??

-- Anonymous, May 20, 2002

You know you're right Lee, I don't have a southern accent...much. Anyway, with DH and his Scottish accent--no one really heard me. Gen and Alex were all "Oooh, his accent is so charming, dontcha just love it..." And yes, we were the Soccer room episode with the amazing Vern. Don't let anyone tell you different--he is a sweetheart. Funny, kind, intelligent and genuinely interested. He keeps in touch with my youngest son--they bonded. Actually, I read somewhere on here that Vern was suppose to be an architect and not a designer/decorator. He is both----trained and versed in the decorative arts and an architect. Did I mention he's also quite pleasant to look at? And Gen...well that's a posting in itself!

-- Anonymous, May 21, 2002

Karen, tell us more! I am only now just catching reruns of previous seasons. I gotta say the moss on the walls by Gen: yuck! I loved the HO saying, before she opened her eyes "what's that smell?" ha!, that was priceless! What's with taking down the ceiling fans? A recent episode, they took it down and replaced it with a whimpy little ordinary white ceiling fixture. sheesh!

-- Anonymous, May 21, 2002

Karen! You're teasing us! We want allllllllll the little "TS Insider Knowledge." man, you got to go where i can only DREAM of being PLEAAASE! hurry back and chat us up.

-- Anonymous, May 21, 2002

I missed that episode, Karen. Please answer the most important question of all... Who was the carpenter?

-- Anonymous, May 21, 2002

I am not teasing ya'll...much. David the answer is Amy Wynn. Quite petite-was surprised. And Alex, well let's just say if a stong breeze passed her, she'd have to hold on to something. She was giddy and happy at our shoot. She just flew in from the Oscars and was glowing. Presumably, we were lucky, but who knows. Gen was pretty true to form. She is very much the earth mother, and operates on a different plane than most of us. Much more svelte in person than on TV. Her grandma came to the shoot from Minnesota, I think, and she was quite happy to see her. Cameras off, Gen is more serene and low-key-but cameras on she comes alive and full of energy. The crew was very cool- -shame they aren't doing it anymore. Can't say I'm overly fond of Banyon, but things always change. I'll gladly let ya'll pick my brain if any other questions.

-- Anonymous, May 22, 2002

Oh... You met Amy... Oh.... Oh...

Uh... Is she as nice and cool as she seems. (if not, please lie to me)

And what happened to the crew?

-- Anonymous, May 24, 2002

My favorite designer is GENEVIEVE, she is so creative and I finally saw the re-run of the moss wall episode. It was so cool, she always does neat things like that. The only thing that was kinda sucky was the floor. I would hate to walk on those cold uneven tiles in the morning. Hilda's room was good too, she was kinda Bitchy though. Except again for the flooring. The Berber carpet that was there already was great, the home owner even said he didn't want it touched. As for the black walls I personally liked them but again the home owner said he wanted it light. Hilda just doesnt know how to listen. As for Paige Davis, she has got to be the hottest woman in the world with her flippy haircut and giggly personality. I like her alot better then Alex. Alex always seemed corny and trying to push a joke to much. Paige is just naturally funny. Did any one catch the new episode on May 18th it was the one where Frank redid the garage into a playroom (it came out so GREAT) Also have any of you voted for your favorite episode on the TLC website? I think the 3 episodes that won are The one from Boston where they redid the 2 girl's bedrooms, the one when Doug made the lady cry for covering up her fireplace and painting everything brown and lastly the one where Frank did that AWESOME southern red kitchen with the chili peppers (the one I voted for)

-- Anonymous, May 24, 2002

Paige? Better than Alex? I don't know what to say... I'd like to say 'to each his own,' but that's just wrong... Hehehe...

To me, at least, Paige seems the most fake. And Alex is FAR hotter than Paige... FAAAAARRRR....

-- Anonymous, May 24, 2002

There have been a few comments about how considerate Frank is for the "real life" use of the rooms. Certainly, he paints very well, and always has unique designs (well except for his sponge-painting and free-handing vines; those seem to show up in every room). But the last few rooms that I have seen where he is designing a room for kids, he takes out the carpet and paints a cement floor! Now maybe it's for budget, but I wouldn't want my kids' playroom to have a cement floor, even if it was painted to look like stones. I remember him once mentioning to a HO that the table had rounded edges to be kid-safe. But the floor was cement! In those cases, I'd prefer to keep the carpet.

-- Anonymous, May 24, 2002

Frank put down two large floor rugs in the garage/playroom and the old carpet was horrible and dirty. And David geez Paige is way hotter then Alex. I'm not saying Alex is bad lookin cuz she's not but Paige looks way nicer then Alex. Especially in that one celebrity episode (with the Dixie Chick) where she was wearing those HOT TIGHT BLACK LEATHER PANTS.

-- Anonymous, May 24, 2002

when doesn't Paige wear skintight pants?? Alex was so beautiful and calm. Paige is always bouncing off the walls with her boundless energy. Whatever happened to the rumor that she was leaving? has anyone heard anymore about that?

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2002

I'm definately not saying that Paige isn't good looking. It's just that Alex was less.... 'bouncy', and had something about her... I dunno, I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2002

Paige isn't hard to look at, however, IMO I think she gets under some of the designers skin (as well as mine) even though I'm sure they wouldn't admit it. I do feel that a lot of times during the show it would be better if she would just shut up and let the teams get on with it.

Please.........bring back Alex....

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2002

^^ Exactly ^^

I mean, just look: http://home.attbi.com/~davidcrivera/images/alex.jpg

I don't think Paige can compare to that.

<< The home owner on the episode where Hilde wanted to dye the carpet orange needed to get a grip. She signed up for the show knowing that the room was going to get a complete change. And she acted like a complete b*****!!!! >>

Disagree with you 100%. FINALLY a homeowner shows some guts and stands up to the Uber-bitch Hilde and you think SHE needs to get a grip ?!? These "designers" have wrecked room after room, she KNEW her friends would hate the dyed orange carpet (remember them laughing later when she mentioned it ?) and she did the right thing in not letting Broom Hilde try some half-assed dye job.

Hilde's attitude is always "why be on the show if I can't wreck your home." SHE'S the one who needs to get a grip.

Homeowners are finally getting wise - they've seen all the disasters.

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2002

I've noticed that more and more, home owners are making comments based on what they've seen on the show.

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2002

Yes, I agree, I have also noticed that the H.O.s are getting more cautious. The previous post is so correct though........Hilde is usually a disaster waiting to happen when she attempts projects that involve changing the color of something. How many people actually dye their carpets when they want a color change.........none that I have ever heard of. You usually get new carpet or flooring when a change is desired.

Did anyone notice that Paige was actually more upset about the carpet not being dyed than Hilde was.............

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2002

*i fully support that womans stand against hilde dying the carpet orange... like she stated-they live in plano texas... not really a mecca of funky orange carpet type people... but the room would have looked better with a uniform bottom half-hilde should have picked a less drastic color...

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2002

Hey did any of you see the new episode last night? Both rooms came out great. And as usual Amy did an awesome carpentry job. I just have one question, have any of you people seen an episode where any of the designers left a ceiling fan up? Everytime the homeowners say they don't want it takin down the designers always do. I wonder if the homeowners just don't say anything in the begining the designers will leave it alone.

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2002

Laurie is driving me crazy!!! Don't get me wrong, I love her rooms but, I can see many simple solutions to her lack of budget problems. Last night when she didn't know what to do about the dirty couch; when she said she could return some accessories, why not return the light fixture? She knew full well that the H.O.s didn't want the fan taken down. And the show with the kitchen where she had to return the floor rugs because she was over budget? Why the heck did she spend money to repaint the room the exact same color?! And Paige, what an idiot. On the room that had the asian mural, when Doug asked her how much it looked like that room cost and she squeals "1000 dollars!" I don't think that was the answer he was looking for. What a ditz.

I missed the first of the new episodes, but I caught the last one. I don't really remember how the rooms turned out, but is it just me, or is Amy just getting hotter and hotter? Yeesh!

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

Okay folks, here's what I think. If you're going to be on Trading Spaces, be prepared for anything. In my house (provided I get one and said house has hardwood floors), that would probably be the only thing that I wouldn't let them touch. As well, I would expect that the stuff would be finished, not hanging there in danger of hitting my kids on the head. I love this show though. ANd if I was on it, I would keep the room as a conversation piece if nothing else. If the romo was god-awful, "What happened here?" I'd answer with well I was on the best show ever -- Trading Spaces That said, there are some things that should absolutely not happen -- HAY ON WALLS? There's no way to predict that. And of course they could touch my walls, but I don't want a fire hazard -- does anyone with sense see that Hay + Glue = Flammable? Normally I'm pretty impressed with the rooms, but sometimes I think, I'm glad that wasn't me. But that's kind of the point, folks. If on TS, expect the unexpected. be open for anything. You can always change it back and chances are you'll get a couple cool ideas out of it. As for who I'd let design my room, NOT HILDA - I hate her stuff. Everytime I watch it I wonder if her Prada sandals have deprived her brain of blood somehow. Hilda -- you're supposed to be a professional -- what are you thinking?!? NOT DOUG -- his ideas are too left field and unpredictable. Home theater? Their tv was like 13"? No sir. Not a home theater set up. FRANK -- Blech. Shape it however you want but if I see him open another peach can of paint. "Orange Sherbet" "Pinky Orange" "Peach" Let's be frank, Frank. Peach is Peach. It's also outdated. And so is he... GEN - I love her stuff (usually -- tho the room with five million painted squares looked awful -- so much time painting the squares not enough time to do much of anyhting else.) But her kitchens are always great. bright, sunny, really cute. VERN! Love him! Every design is pretty asian, but lovely. ANd they appear to be quite functional. I haven't disliked a room of his yet. And the clock in the girls room -- LOVE HIM. He'd absolutely be my choice. First and foremost, he wants the HO happy and he really designs rooms that are ineresting. LAURIE -- Pregnant Laurie. Is she pregnant? She looked preganant the last epi i saw her on. I don't know. Her designs come out okay, but awfully similar to the way things started. I guess I wouldn't mind her, but nothing. As for Paige v. Alex, from what I understand Alex left with some ill will... I was reading a personal post froma someone who had visited the show as a guest oof someone (the girls in NJ epi), and apparently Alex was fighting with producers the entire time. Not cool. I like Paige (cringe). She seems pretty nice, and certainly helpful. Sure she's scripted, she's also on tv. Plus, sometimes you can see her dissin the designers with the HO, and those scenes are HE-LARRY-US. Ty is clearly the better carpenter. Every time Amy Wynn puts something up, you read in the local news paper that the woodwork came crashing down. As for Ty being too look obsessed - I think Ty was a former model... Thus, he knows he's good lookin'. Has known about it for a while.

Am loving this board! dana

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

Yes Laurie is pregnant. In most of the newer episodes, it's pretty obvious, and she's mentioned it a couple of times. That's also why she sends someone else to do her dirty work (ceiling fans), because she can't climb the ladders anymore.

And please! Amy Wynn is definately the better carpenter, and that's not just because I think she's hot... I've only read of one problem w/ carpentry, and I'm pretty sure it was Ty's doing. Don't get me wrong, Ty's not all that bad, and he cracks me up sometimes, but Amy is clearly better.

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

I completly agree w/ Dana about everything she said except...... I to think Amy is the better carpenter. Doug + Hilda + Frank = BAD Gen + Vern + Laurie = Good

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

Which carpentry job that Amy did went wrong???

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

That's what I want to know.

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

I vote for Amy as the better carpenter, Ty is also good, but he complains more than Amy, Amy gets on with the job no matter what the task, so therefore Amy gets the nod. As for Paige being helpful. She should appear at the start/finish of the show only, shes just in the way any other time.

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

Paige helps out with all those little craft projects during the show. I think she helps Frank the most because he's usually the one that has all those little projects.

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

Okay people, first, Amy was the carpenter on the Hay episode. Look at any article about it. Those shelves were not properly installed.

Second -- Calm down! Amy is a talented carpenter -- but I prefer Ty. Think about it as Amy is pink and Ty is orange. I prefer orange. Pink just isn't as great a color to me. Okay?

That said, this has been a great memorial day. Me, trading spaces and all y'all.

Hmm.. Hay episode... not good for anyone.

Dana, sorry if I came off a little upset. I wasn't. Just really like Amy. Heheh...

Hey everybody, I made 2 Trading Spaces wallpapers and added them to my website. Check them out and tell me what you think, they are on the front page not the regular wallpaper page.

I love this marathon thats been on all day today. I'm supposed to be studying for finals but all I can seem to do is watch this show

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

Hehe, just saw the one again where the H.O.s wouldn't let Doug paint the fireplace. He acted like a 4 year old not getting his way.....it was hilarious!

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

link to newspaper article about one of Dougie's disasters (home theater):

http://katu.com/news/story.asp?ID=45227

watching the "cover the fireplace" episode now. God I'd like to smack him upside the head. He's obviously just there for controversy (and thus ratings) - I sure wouldn't let him in my house. Unless my lawyer assured me we could win the resulting suit ;)

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

Thanx for that link. I knew watching that episode that the tv would come crashing down. Jeez what a horrible idea for a room, and to do it all in brown.

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2002

Chris! Where did you get that pic of Amy!?! (the one in this pic: http://www.chrisconnection.homestead.com/files/background.JPG ) If you have a higher res source pic, please post it or email it to me!

-- Anonymous, May 28, 2002

*did anyone ever see that episode of sex in the 90s (i believe it was titled "what women want") on mtv that featured gen talking about how she was a virgin?

-- Anonymous, May 28, 2002

I just saw a rerun of that episode where the Mother and Daughter Team skipped out on Doug's homework assignment in favour of Dates. This is the first time that I actually sided with Doug. Those two were a couple of idiots! Especially the daughter. I mean, why bother signing up for the show in the first place. They just treated the whole experience as if it were a joke.

I wish the other Team had of painted their room black, although knowing those two losers they probably would have thought that was great.

-- Anonymous, May 28, 2002

I saw that one today too... That girl did NOT deserve that room. They were total jerks, and they actually had the nerve to make fun of Doug... Like you said, I sided with him for once.

-- Anonymous, May 28, 2002

Hey all I added some pics of Amy on my site because of what David said. The one where she is in red is my favorite too. I also like the picture when she was on 'A Makeover Story'

Sign my guestbook too please!!

Thanks a lot, Chris, you had 2 that I hadn't found yet. I've already scoured most of the net looking for pictures. Let us know if you get any more!

I added 5 EXTREMELY HOTTTT pics of Alex McLeod on my site from back in her modeling days.

Eh-heh... Heheh... Yeah... Heh...

Well now... Heheh... eh-heheh... Yeah...

-- Anonymous, May 30, 2002

This board is hysterical. I thought I was the only TS freak who sat around thinking these evil thoughts about some of the designers. And, OH MY DEAR GOD Paige Page. I loved that cheesy Wedding Story with her and her cheesy husband. I wanted to bitch slap him. What was the deal with that singer friend of hers? That HAD to be made up- he was NOT REAL. My favorite part is when she starts blathering on about how her REAL name is Mindy (CHA RIGHT) so she will be Mindy Page, not Paige Page, when we all KNOW that this is just baloney. I don't know if any of you are familiar with the Real World, but one of the cast members from the New Orleans cast has a website (Matt- I think it's Super- fly.com or something like that) and he has a journal entry about how in love he is with Paige and how he thinks she is the ideal woman. Honestly. Anyway- I just wanted to put my two cents in. I think Vern is my favorite, even though he's very predictable he rarely does anything really disgusting. And he seems like a nice guy. I AM IN LUST with Amy Wynn!! And Frank, well, I think that he needs to find a boyfriend FAST before he doesn't have any good years left.

Carole

Heheheh...

I agree with you on most counts... especiall the Amy Wynn comment... Mmm... Amy...

But anyway, yeah, it's cool to be able to talk to you guys, seeing as most of my friends would make fun of me for watching the show. Heheh... I can't help it. I may be a 16yr old boy, but I love watching Trading Spaces/Changing Rooms/Ground Force. It does help that Amy, Alex, Anna, and Linda are on those shows, though. Heheheh.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2002

Wowsers!!! David, I figured by the way you write to be maybe in your 20s or low 30s! But I guess it really doesn't matter, we all have the same thing in common, we are TS Junkies!!

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2002

Hey David, your not the only 16 yr old to watch Trading Spaces. I was so afraid to tell my friends that I watch it, but once I did they are all WOW I love that show, then we start talking about how hot Paige and Amy are. I just saw the episode with Hilda and the aluminum foil ceiling in the bedroom. I heard so many bad things about that, but I thought it came out really good. And I loved that bird, I want one just like it.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2002

Thanks, Lee. And good to hear, Chris. I actually do talk to some people about it, but they're usually older women. Heheh... Or girls around my age... Hmm... Guess that's not so bad, huh?

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2002

Hey....let's have a TS party. I'll bring the beer and chips. Paige can bring he crying towel, Hilde can bring her bad attitude, Doug..nuff said, Amy can bring whatever she wants, Frank will probably bring his 'Boyfriend Blow-Up doll. Who else am I missing???

-- Anonymous, June 01, 2002

Mmm... Amy...

Remember, Frank has a 'wife...' Says so on the TLC site.

-- Anonymous, June 01, 2002

Just rewatched the Oregon episode with the "quilt wall" by Gen. Everytime I see that room I can't get over how horrible it is. It's really the slip covers that push it over the edge for me. If she'd left them alone even it would've been better. I'm hoping the homeowners went out and got black slip covers or something.

-- Anonymous, June 01, 2002

Hey Everybody, Anyone have the game "The Sims"? I made this really cool Trading Spaces house. All your favorite people are there. It took me two weeks to find the perfect skins and heads to make everyone, but I think I did a good job. The photo album is really cool too. You can download it at www.thesims.com and then go to the sims exchange and type in cdapice. Tell me what you think

-- Anonymous, June 01, 2002

Sounds cool. Too bad I don't have the sims...

Let me know if you ever make an Amy Wynn skin for Jedi Knight 2, okay? Hehehheh...

-- Anonymous, June 01, 2002

I know y'all love Amy Wynn, and think she's the hottest thing ever, but maybe we could stick to talking about the actual show? Or at the very least, Amy Wynn's role on the show, not what she wears.

What did y'all think of Hilda's "quandrant" room? I thought it looked amazing, but it's totally impractical. (Also, it looked like she had left over fabric from the "big top" room.) The four chairs can't be moved out of their quandrant, and then, how are they supposed to watch t.v.? She just sort of threw it into the back corner, like, hey! This room is usable!

And I'm so glad Doug repainted the pink. The initial color DID look like an Easter egg, the look the homeowner expressly said he didn't want. Doug was actually tolerable last night. Who knew? (But the woman on his team never looked happy once, did she? But her friend/ex- boyfriend/roommate whatever was always smiling.)

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2002

Well, considering no one has said much about the show itself in the last few days, at least we're talking about something.

I thought Hilde's room was horrible. Not only is that an annoying design, but those colors... I mean, who in their right mind would really want thier room divided into 'quadrants' of PINK and GRAY!?! Bad, just bad. And it did look like some of that fabric was left over from the 'Big Top' episode.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2002

Re: Frank's wife.. My g/f and I actually ran into Frank and his wife in an quaint shopping district in Spring, Tx. (Frank lives in Katy,Tx.) He was the nicest guy. He is just as he seems on the show. He was very personable and took the time to answer all our questions we had about the show and "scoop" about the other designers, etc.. He has a very pretty wife. She seemed just as nice, and very patient considering Frank must get stopped all the time and asked about the show. Frank is just as genuine as he seems on the show.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2002

Ugh, I thought the quadrant room was just awful. It looked like a cave, and I can't imagine trying to keep up with a space like that. You could never lay your mail or a magazine down. Neither room really appealed to me, and I cannot believe Doug put gazing balls in their living room.

Laurie may be the queen of yellow walls, but at least a yellow wall leaves you with something to work with. Up with Laurie!

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2002

I didn't care for either room. The funniest aspect of this episode is that both couples seemed to want the designers to like them so they were kind of kissing some major butt. . I am also glad that the homeowners insisted on a different shad of pink . The first color was reminisent of Bazooka Joe bubble gum. I loved when the guy from the couple who had the dining room redone started jumping up and down and squeeling like Pee Wee Herman. That was just some classic TV.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2002

Ok, I missed the first couple of minutes, so why exactly were those two boys playing the guitar and singing songs all the time? And were the boys a couple? The whole thing was confusing to me. Confusing the way that Frank being married is confusing.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2002

Thank goodness Robyn!! I thought I was the only one. I'm so certaint aht those 2 boys were a couple, but they said they weren't. As a hooker on Jerry SPringer would say, Whatever. Whatever.

dana

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2002

Well, the little one is married to the tall woman and the other two people used to date, but don't anymore. I suspect because the tall boy with glasses doesn't really like girls.

And as much as the table looked beautiful all set and skirted, would it annoy anyone else that their formerly decent, although kitchen- like, table is now a piece of plywood that will *always* have to be skirted? At least when Frank makes someone a new table it can stand alone.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2002

Yeah, but Frank always beats the crap outta his tables. That whole 'distressed' thing...

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2002

I think the poop brown ceiling and the poop brown curtains added a nice touch to the dining room. Just what you want to look at while dining. ALSO- what did they do with all of the belongings of the dining room couple??? That room was jam packed with doo das before they started. I always wonder that. I bet they jam everything they don't use in the coat closet so that the first time you go to hang up your coat an avalanche of crap falls out.

-- Anonymous, June 03, 2002

I watched a lovely TS "classic" this weekend, from the Alex McLeod days. I forgot how big Doug's hair used to be, back when he went by Doug and not "Doug-lassss".

Ah, I miss the days where the designers actually consulted the HO's. When I heard Frank say "I agree that we should not repaint all this knotty pine panelling," my jaw hit the floor.

-- Anonymous, June 03, 2002

Yep, those were the good days. I remember seeing an old Doug episode... He actually listened... AMAZING!

and then there's alex... *ahem*

-- Anonymous, June 03, 2002

you know, now i'm hooked on "designer guys". these guys have yet to make a bad room and make you realize you dont have to paint every surface and make bad furniture to make a change in a room.(it also helps that they have no budget worries) im convinced those guys on trading spaces are hacks. which is exactly why so many people watch it. plywood furniture will never look good, nor will painted floors.but it does make good TV, i'll keep watching.

-- Anonymous, June 04, 2002

What's this "designer guys" show???

-- Anonymous, June 04, 2002

Just found this message board. It is nice to know that there are others who get such a kick out of the successes as well as the failures. In our areas the showed the episode where Hilde painted the fireplace purple. My house had its painted it green. After three hours of striping gels and brushes I gave up. It is now red with tan insets. Given a choice I would never paint another one. But Hildie always seems to get her way no matter how bad the idea.

-- Anonymous, June 04, 2002

Yep, I just saw that one today too. I really didn't like Hilde's room. It wasn't THAT bad, but totally not my style.

I thought the part where Amy was talking about that coffee table was funny. Heheh... Classic TV.

-- Anonymous, June 04, 2002

That was so funny when Amy was telling the 'Alex Cam' how horrible the table would come out and what a pain in the butt it was to make. In the end it did look horrible ---AMY IS ALWAYS RIGHT--- Those skiny medal legs on that big bulky wooden table.

-- Anonymous, June 05, 2002

Designer Guys is a show on HGTV Canada. They rock-check them out at designerguys.com. Says there that they will be coming to the Discovery Home and Leisure Channel in the States. You will love them!

-- Anonymous, June 05, 2002

I dunno if I have those channels...

And I'm not sure if I'd watch a designing show with just guys in it... Heheh... At least if people make fun of me for watching TS, I can point to Amy or Alex.

-- Anonymous, June 05, 2002

Good point David

-- Anonymous, June 05, 2002

'cuz watching an all male designing show that's entertaining would be wrong?? Just saying

-- Anonymous, June 05, 2002

Hey all, just found this forum. Makes me giggle.

I love Gen and Amy Wynn. And frankly, I think they love each other. =)

Here's to no shoes and sleeveless shirts.

Hey.

rog, I'm just kidding... I think...

-- Anonymous, June 05, 2002

Has anyone seen MTV's 'Sex In the 90's' episode with Gen?

So far, I've heard all kinds of stuff that she supposedly said. I haven't seen it for myself though.

-- Anonymous, June 05, 2002

Rog, People talk especially in a highschool.

-- Anonymous, June 05, 2002

I don't think there can ever be enough designing shows for me. Men designers, women designers, children fingerpainting masterpieces, monkeys designing with banana peels - I love it all.

-- Anonymous, June 06, 2002

I'm with you Robyn...bring on those monkeys! Or to quote BNL, "If I had a million dollars, I would buy you a monkey. You know you always wanted a monkey." Okay, I am way off topic so I'll leave now.

-- Anonymous, June 06, 2002

If I had a million dollars, I'd buy you some art. Maybe a Picasso or a Garfunkel.

Hmm... Guess I'm off topic now too... Okay, I'll go.

Wait, I'll get it back on-topic.

Who's your favorite HOST?

1. Alex 2. Paige 3. Carol (Changing Rooms)

That's a tough one for me. I like Carol's personality, but Alex is just beautiful... Decisions, decisions...

-- Anonymous, June 06, 2002

Paige definatly

-- Anonymous, June 06, 2002

Ahhh!!! Okay... I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but... Why?!?

Heheh... Care to explain?

-- Anonymous, June 06, 2002

Alex. No doubt about it.

-- Anonymous, June 06, 2002

paige is super cute, but that broad from season one is okay but her eyes are too close together. and now for some more pieces of gospel...hilde is sexy and her bitchiness amplifies that sexiness. Amy Wynn is pretty but she's not hot, she's decidedly average, just because she wears a tool belt doesnt make her hot. She could lose about 10 lbs. too.and if you were hiring a contractor and someone pulled up to your driveway with the skills of an amy wynn or a ty you would run for the hills. theyre horrible. god i love that stupid show!!! here is my impersonation of a homeowner when a designer asks "so what do you think this room needs?" homeowner..."this room needs color!!!". then they look all upset when the paint isnt beige.and painting floors? that i dont get.

-- Anonymous, June 07, 2002

Kevin- bite YOUR Tounge about Amy Wynn!!!!!!!!!!!!! With toolbelt, without toolbelt SHE IS CUTE! Alex eh ok, Paige blech. I like Carol from Changing ROoms a lot-she seems like she would be fun to hang out with.

-- Anonymous, June 07, 2002

Kevin you have to remember TV puts 10 lbs. on you, Amy Wynn is perfect. I chose Paige because she is so energetic and hot. She's really helpful too, she helps out way more then Alex ever did. And whenever Alex did decide to help out the desigeners she would always complain about it, like it's so hard to paint a TV stand. Paige also does those little monolouges in the begining of the show way better then Alex ever did.

-- Anonymous, June 07, 2002

Gah! Kevin... almost gave me a heart attack!

Amy is amazing... Actually, look up in this board, because someone posted saying that Amy is actually very fit in person. And, if you really look closely (like I tend to do), you can see that she's NOT FAT!! Sheesh... And I admit, Alex's personality apparently wasn't the best, but man... is she hot... Paige is okay, but there's something about her that doesn't sit right with me. I dunno what though.

Also, I think Amy is a good carpenter. She just builds what they ask her to, and they keep asking for crappy MDF sofas.

-- Anonymous, June 07, 2002

You hit th nail on the head David. She can only build what they want and use only the material they purchase. I have no doubt she would do much better if she picked the material. But the designers set the priorities for the available funds and the wood supply is usually low priority. The one exception is when the want good wood for a decorative wall.

-- Anonymous, June 07, 2002

Hey all! Just found this board...it's great! I must say that I'd hang out with Gen, Laurie, or Vern any day and let them loose on my house with no problem. I actually saw an episode today where Hildi did a really good job on a room...same with Doug! Horray for them! About time they had a success... I don't like country...but I like Frank. I loved his Shakespeare room. Gen's moss wall really was my favorite. I'd feel like a faerie living in that room! :)

-- Anonymous, June 09, 2002

The thing that bugged me about that moss room was the smell (apparently not very pleasant), and the fact that it would eventually die and turn brown, no?

-- Anonymous, June 10, 2002

That's exactly what I was thinking about the moss. It would get all brown and the H.O. would have to peel dead moss off the walls! Ick!

-- Anonymous, June 10, 2002

Go check out www.realityworldtv.com Many a times it talks about Trading Spaces.

And by the way the moss is dry. It is always dried basically. If you ever go to Florida look up on the treas and feel it. It is in the same texture and color as it is in the bags of it that you can by at Michaels.

-- Anonymous, June 10, 2002

quick question, how does one dust moss?

-- Anonymous, June 10, 2002

I believe that they didn't actually stick it directly to the wall...but put it on boards or paper or something first...maybe? I seem to remember reading that somewhere. And yeah-like someone said the stuff is already dried out, so it doesn't "go bad" or anything like that. This is sorta off topic...but does anyone know if we send snail mail to Banyan will they forward it to the cast member's current location? Thanks!

-- Anonymous, June 10, 2002

Oh, didn't know that about the moss... Still, it was pretty obvious that the home owner didn't like the smell all that much. And they glued/nailed corkboard to the walls, and then pinned the moss to that.

-- Anonymous, June 10, 2002

That's right! I couldn't remember exactly...thanks David!

-- Anonymous, June 10, 2002

No problem.

And about the mail thing, I really don't know, but that'd be pretty cool if they would...

-- Anonymous, June 10, 2002

Hey did anyone else read that article in EW about Trading Spaces? I was a little disappointed...I was hoping there would be more! There was only like, what...a paragraph maybe? I really wanna see a tape of the Today Show when they were on. Does anyone know if the Today show keeps archives of that stuff? Or who might? Thanks!!

-- Anonymous, June 11, 2002

I don't get that magazine... Did they say ANYTHING interesting? And maybe if you found out a show number or something you could order a tape of the Today Show w/ them on it... Just a thought.

-- Anonymous, June 12, 2002

Go here Did anyone know that they originally wanted Ty Pennington to be the bachelor on that show The Bachelor? Check out the article above to read for yourself. I probably would have watched if he had been on it!

-- Anonymous, June 15, 2002

If you email whomever you're wishing to write to on the TLC site, they will forward the emails. I think it's up to Amy Wynn or whichever cast member you write whether or not to respond. I sent an email to Paige and she did write back a couple of months later.

Okay ya'll, what is up with Doug? I mean, I love him but did everyone see what happened with that collage edition show? Who in their right mind would decorate a *guys* room, the way he did? Green and orange? What??? Even in his mind that couldn't have looked good! And those delicate little counters- hanging-from-wire contraptions he had infront of the couches? They'll be broken within the week. They were nice, but he must have forgotten he was decorating a frat house. And even with those poor girls trying to save the room, it still turned out gross. I mean, really buddy, guys are easy to please as far as decorating goes and not only did he go waaaay over the top (I'm not even gonna talk about that round green and orange sitting thingie he made...ugh...) but it turned out just plain tacky. He's lucky those two boys were to polite. And THEN with how nice the girls' place came out, it looked like they felt kinda bad....but at least they got to keep those sweet beer lights. Brave girls, I wouldn't have the guts to fight with Doug. So, now that it's off my chest, in conclusion, I'll just say that, ya, sometimes Dougs okay but he really fouled up this time. Oh, and Ty rocks but you all know that. Anyway, keep on rockin in the free world!!!

PS-TS should come to Canada again....coooool......

Agree with ya 100% on the college show (which I watched despite it featuring annoying Kal Weenies). A huge room designed for partying should be a slam dunk, but Doug is the least likely person on the planet to be in a frat. I'd bet it was the first time he's been in a frat house in his life. The huge, rolling ottomans were a cool idea and I actually thought the green and orange would be fine if the rest of the room wasn't already glowing green. Adding seating was a good idea, but the hanging tables I agree won't last through one decent party. I wonder if it looks better with the lights dimmed... maybe. Typically that's a room only used at night.
