M6 90mm Framelines

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I have read several times in this forum that the 90mm M lenses actually cover the area marked by the 75mm framelines. Would it make any sense to modify a 90mm lens so that it brought up the 75mm framelines?

At infinity the 75mm framelines are a good guide but at closest focus they would be way off.

I bought a 50mm lens flange (which brings up the 50/75 frames) for my 90/2.8 Elmarit and replaced it. Since I mostly shoot at farther distances it is more convenient for me. At close focus distance (the 1% of the time I shoot like that) I manually use the frame selector lever to bring up the 90 frames. If and when I sell the lens I will replace the original flange. One could also simply file the cam so the 75 frames came up, but you'd have to buy a new mount anyway if you sold the lens.
