Is metal music really satanic or evil ????

Is Metal Music really that evil ??

Are all the persons who listen to this kind music bad (to the bone) ??

Personally , lyrics in general doesn't interest me , but if I do know they are fascistic or satanic or religious (white metal) , I don't buy them , fasistic bands , I really hate them !! __ But for me the music on its' own is more important !! Like I wrote before , Since 15 years I play metal music , because I love it !! __ OK a small confession , another reason why I play metal , because I hate physical violence , at schooltime , some creeps have teasing me because I am wearing large glasses , but I hold up my aggression , but later on , you're looking something to get rid off your aggresion against those creeps , but (in my case) without to use of physical violence , metal was for me the perfect choice , but now I play metal because I just love it !! My band is an instrumental metal (General) band !! I am the drummer !! My earlier band , I was the rythmguitarplayer !!

PS , I am 35 , I was 10 years young when I was listening for the first to metal/hardrock , bands as Black Sabbath , ACDC , Van Halen , Rainbow , Thin Lizzy !! __ A cousin of my he had al these kind of LP's , I have no regrets , I discovered metal this way !!

And what about HOUSE (music) in general ??

THX in advance to read my "confused" story !!

Feel free to answer !!

Hey there. Music has got to be one of the most interesting things that God has gifted to the human mind. Common noise can be scooped up, arranged and ordered in such a manner that the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts, and can signify something other than itself, and then can be transfered to the mind of another human being and have that person readily recognize it for what it is. It is sort of analogous to how hydrogen and oxygen come together to produce something totally new with unique properties such as water, or how some simple cells can lead a creature with an immortal soul as humans are. It is yet another reflection of the glory of the creator. In the same way I would say that a human is substantially greater than a collection of living cells, I would say that music is much more than a collection of common noise.

So what's my point? It is that music seems therefore to have some intimate connection with the soul, and in particular it seems move, or be moved by, the emotions.

I think the two hidden questions in what you are asking are 1.whether the music is bad in and of itself and 2.does the music make a person bad or does a person make the music bad.

And guess what? Now that I've started all this, I've got to get to myself off to work and will have to finish it tonight. LOL! I will attempt for finish it off and give my best shot at answering your question. It's a very good question.

Later.

Hi Laurent,

I think music is a wonderful gift from God. However, I think some artists have taken their God given gift and abused it.

My 10 year old son loves music, which is great. Except I have to listen to the lyrics before I will allow him to listen/purchase the music of his likeing.

I will thank God for parental warning labels, that helps in the decision of whether or not I will allow my son to purchase the artists' music.

In the world of MTV or VH1, women and young girls are often used as sex symbols. They are exploited and degraded. I think music videos could have been a good thing, but they went to far with it. I think it borders on the line of pornography.

Just listening to the radio songs are often bleeped, it is quite obvious what is being bleeped to me and my son. I find it repulsive the way some artist express themselves through song. And I find it even more repulsive when they target my sons age group.

And whats even more repulsive is when they win an award for their foul mouthed songs, and then have the audacity to thank God first and foremost!!!!! Somehow I don't think God would have approved.

Anyway Laurent.....I think there is alot of good music out there. I grew up with some of the artists' music you listed. If you take the time to really listen to the lyrics, I'm sure you will be able to answer your own question.

When I am not sure of lyrics to a song that my son might listen to, I look it up on the internet: Lyrics.com.

IMHO it is not the music that might be evil or satanic, but the lyrics.

As Mateo would say: Just my two cents.

Laurent asks:

"Is Metal Music really that evil ??"

A broader question is: can music be "evil"?

My opinion (that's all it is) is based on my understanding of reality, I won't rely on the Bible to answer this.

Music transmits emotion. Anyone who doubts that should watch how music manipulates our feelings.

1) In a horror movie, turn on mute so you can't hear the music. Does the feeling of suspense go away?

2) Watch a show like 20/20 or 60 minutes. Does the music change the way that you look at the characters in each story? Does it help you feel their plight?

3) TV commercials--does the music lift your spirits and make you feel happy as they are sharing the potential impact of their product on your life?

4) Candles...Barry White? Do I need to say anything more?

To me, it's clear that music transmits and often accentuates emotion. In my opinion, most metal music transmits the emotions of anger. If we have some bitterness/alienation towards society (our family, peers, etc), the music provides an injection of pride in our defiance of what is "expected" of us by others. The music helps us feel like we would be just fine if everyone would just leave us alone. I believe that the teenage hormonal rollercoaster takes "angry music" in as a way to cope with things like depression.

OK, I don't mean to go down to specifics. Music doesn't have absolute control over us. But it can turn a positive attitude to negative; and it can amplify a negative attitude.

If you've seen Spinal Tap, if your emotions only go up to "ten," music helps bring them to "eleven." :-)

Laurent,

It is a great coincidence that you talk about this just now that I am listening to MP3 music in my computer. In fact, I have just heard Van Halen, which I like very much. My favourite is "Right Now". It´s video clip is the best I have ever seen (and indeed won the "best clip" award from MTV the year it was released). I will never forget it, especially that sceene where the caption says "Right Now your parents are missing you". As I leave far away from my mother, this made a profound impression on me.

Indeed, as others have said, music has a unique power to summon our emotins, and it is one of the few things that is able to make me burst into tears.

I do not like pure metal music, I think it is much noisy to me. But I love Deep Purple and Pink Floyd, that is, progressive rock.

At the same time, I love Gregorian Chant, and I feel very sorry that I cannot hear it at Masses nowadays. La musique chantée dans l´Église au-jour-d´hui est, en la plus part, horrible!

God Bless us!

Grammar policewoman Melissa strikes anew.

I think the proper spelling of "au-jour-d´hui" is actually sans hyphenation. But, I rescind this belief, should I have been mis- instructed in my French courses.

All the same, I just love reading French posts, and being able to understand them...just don't go off and get too advanced...it *has* been years.

LAMB OF GOD, YOU WHO TAKE AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD, GIVE US PEACE.

Hi Enrique,

Hey Mateo, how much extra time you think I'd have to spend in purgatory if I reran all the dissenter's posts through the dialectizer? Would it be less if I had my wife do it for me? Haha!

Still, one of the funniest sites I've seen is the one that gives a point by point argument as to why David Hasselhoff (the Baywatch dood) is the anti-christ:

The 'Vatican owns the IRS' website was good also.
