Radon Gas Map

Did you know that radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer? Radon gas is present in every state. Here is a link to a map at the EPA showing where radon gas is most prevelant. You can also click on the states below the map and see your specific state with your county listed. Very interesting!

Great, I'm in Zone 1. Glad my house has dissipation vent pipes installed.

When we were house hunting in 1999 we found an underground house that we were very interested in, but found a complex meter type thing in the laundry room. It turned out to be a radon detection/ventilation device, if the levels on the meter where all the same you had to evacuate the house immediately. Looking into it furter, the house had a severe radon problem--the owners and their real estate agent said the system took care of everything but we passed on the house.

All of the Southern Tier of NY is zone one--I didn't know that. I'm really glad we've had the cabin tested.

Karen- Thank you so much for posting this information. I also live in zone 1, and was not even aware that radon was a concern in my area. -Merry (in MN)

Years ago ( many) took some college classes and did a report on radon. Yep...our homestead is in the #1 areas too !! It's a wonder we aren't all dead in our beds. But...I always figured with the old stone fondation and the leaky old windows we were safe. Guess that's not really true. Now we did a complete make over on the old house and no drafts. Have the smoke detectors with the randon detectors on them in the house. Does anyone know if these really work ?? My thoughts are do what you can but don't worry too much over what you can't control. Suppose that would be a good question to ask when buying a new home too. Have a Good Day !!!

Does anyone know of anyone who ever developed lung cancer that was attributed to radon gas? (disclosure (and with all due respect): IMHO, it's kinda scammy.)

Wow. For once Brooklyn is at the BOTTOM of the list for the presence of nasty substances.

Thanks, you made my day.

Before you worry about what zone you homestead is in, read this, too:
