Its also St. Jordi's day (yep, pronounced as it's written) in Catalunya. They've got the same national/regional saint as England. It's strange to see the George's Crosses everywhere I'll tell you.

Much bigger event here mind. The blokes have to buy a red rose for the ladies and receive a book in return. The rose is very traditional but the book-buying has been grafted on in the last couple of decades to force the ignorant.... err... less than keen to read Catalans to buy a book. They have one of the lowest book-buying rates in Europe, so I'm told.

I'm entering deep-shit territory this year. I'm going to the pub to watch the game despite having the flu. Her indoors seems to think I should be cooking her a romantic meal or something.

I told her that Valentine's day is only 10 months away...

Yet another reason for celebration tomorrow night in the 'dark satanic mills' of Blackburn, Lancashire. Could be a canny neet, leyk!

Shouldn't the title be St GEORDIES Day? After all it is the day we will ensure CL Football next season

-- Anonymous, April 22, 2002

What is it? I heard a rumour at school that St.George wasn't really even English.

-- Anonymous, April 22, 2002

In light of the recent Paddy's Day thread - which saw several (alleged) miserable scrotes malign the fact that there was no hoopla for the English national day - could I just wish anyone who actually gives a monkeys a very enjoyable and cultural St.George's Day.

;o)

When was St.Cuthberts Day again ? Now there was something worth getting worked up for !!

I'm sure I'll have a pint o' Guiness. It is tradition after all.

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2002

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2002

OOps typo, Georges. Geordies day sounds like a better idea though.

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2002

Is it June? that'd be cool....I thought it was march for some reason so was all depressed at having missed out on it!

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2002

Well would you believe St George wasn't even English? I think the Daily Mail needs to run a campaign about this...more here

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2002

Our canteen at work had loads of Crosses of St. George up in celebration. However the only thing they could think of to serve under this theme was bangers and mash. Oh dear.

I'm informed the BNP chose to celebrate St George's day by putting up English flags on lamposts in Oldham in their bid to turn it into something ressembling Belfast (complete with 'Peace Wall').

These knuckle-scrapping morons want to provoke the council into removing them so to claim it is 'anti-english' in the run up to the local elections. How dare they (ab)use the english flag as part of their racist hate-campaign.
