TAMRON 28-200 vs. CANON 28-200greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread |
Hi!Somebody can tell me, if it is worth to change a Tamron AF 28-200mm f3.8-5.6 LD Aspherical (IF) Super with a CANON EF 28-200 f3.5-5.6 USM? The CANON lens is much better then the TAMRON?
It is better to change the TAMRON with a CANON EF 28-105 USM (or 28-135 IS USM)?
All I want is to take good pictures (comepared to the price of the lens).
Thank you!

All I want is to take good pictures.good pictures of what. lens selection depends a lot on what you want to shoot.
if good pictures is the only requirement then 28-135IS USM is the best lens. Canon EF 28-105 USM is equally good and infact better when it comes to filter size (58mm Vs 72mm) and weight(375g Vs 549g). optical quality is not very different from 28-135IS USM. but IS is good, especially for hand holding the camera.
or you can go for the more versatile and lower quality 28-200 canon lens. but prefer to stick to Canon, though you won't have much troubles with Tamron lenses.

Hi guys...Have anyone of you encounter the f3.8 for a Tamron AF 28-200mm (f3.8- 5.6) is not achievable? I can only run down to f4. With my other canon lens I don¡¦t have a problem.

There are two reasons that your canon will not show f.3.8 on your tamron, 1. unless you are using one of the top level Canons ie:( EOS 1,3,IV) you will not get 1/3 f stop readings, only half stops, so because f3.8 is closer to f4, thats what will be displayed. 2. the real f stop for that lens is f.4 anyway. lens munfacturers often get overly ambitious in their marketing. The origional Kiron 28-200 was also originally marketed as f3.8 at the wide end then changed it to f4 without any physical modifications. JC
