The bias English press

As you know I don't live in the NE anymore so the newspapers I get tend to be North West editions. However NONE of the tabloids or broadsheets from Sunday used a picture of Shearer celebrating his 2ooth goal as their lead article. It is a terrific achivement that ALL of the sports pages should have lead with but no - we had to see Owen or one of the Man U muppets doing something instead.

It's a disgrace.

Well, to be honest Lynda, I wouldn't expect the Journal or Ronnie lead article to carry a lead story of Becks or YMO breaking that record (as opposed to a foot). The best we could expect might be "Football record broken - no NE casualties".

As you know I don't live in the NE anymore

I never know whether to sympathise with this sad condition (one I suffered myself for 30 years) or to point out that the solution lies in your own hands. Probably both...

Howay yhem bonny lass. Note how Screacher apparently looks 20 years younger after a switch from NW to NE (see *New! Football, it's good for your health thread) and having discarded his walking stick is now teaching Lua Lua to do back flips. Judging by the same thread, Swift appears to have gone partially blind by leaving the North East. :-)

mind you, if you are going to actually choose to live outside the NE at least try and recreate the feeling by living in the NE of your new country. I felt a lot more settled in Barca knowing that it was in the corner at the top to the right

And among stroppy locals who consider themselves to be a nation apart. Pretty shrewd move Swifty. :-{E}

I was a bit miffed, especially the Sunday Times report. Glowing though it was, it was a small section and no pics. AND they never used the opportunity to have a half/full page spread about the man who smashes PL goal scoring records for fun.

The free* copy of the Sunday Mirror was a little better, but I guess Liverpool retaking the PL lead and with goals from the diving, short-arse wonder boy Owen was a leader story.

*free at the Travel Inn I was at Saturday night - divn't buy that rag, y'knaa!

Lynda, the Stoke-on-Trent Sunday Sentinel (circulation about 57) had a huge picture of Al on the front of its sports section. It's a broadsheet and the picture took up half the front page. Discerning lot in Hanley!!
