or what Keegan did at Newcastle when they were in that division ?

Is that the same Megson who is about to leave WBA because he doesn't get on with the chairman? I can see the parallels sparxx ;-)

No chance of raising a glass for Megson in my household. My 'significant other' is a Wolves supporter and he is gutted to say the least.

Sparxx continues to stalk the Messiah with a couple of bits of wood he's knocked together and a few nails.

Forgive them Lord - they know not what they do

Any good Frank Skinner songs we can prepare?

just figured that since you all went loopy when Man City got promoted you'd be heartful enough to congratulate and wish a real team and their manager well...but I see those accolades are only reserved for certain former managers of the toon....can't say I'm overly surprised!

Oh and Softie... if he really is in the crapper with the director or whoever... that just makes it all the more impressive, doesn't it?

Gary Megson has obviously done a great job at West Brom and I`m mildly pleased he`s doing well, but with all due respect to him he is hardly a Newcastle legend is he? I rarely hear people refer to his period at the club as "The Megson Era".....

I'll raise a glass, Sparxx. But then again I'll raise a glass to most things! It's good to see WBA back in the top flight, and Megson has suceeded where many others have failed. Bit early to give him too many plaudits though, and he hasn't achieved promotion with quite the same panache as NUFC and Man City. Probably had a harder job though.

Just means another trip to the grim hole called the West Midlands...are Baggies fans as bad as their other brummie counterparts in terms of 80s thugishness?

sparxx, Mr Thompson has told him that his job is to coach the first team and that all the other stuff at the club (i.e. signing players, extending contracts etc) is none of his business. Mr T talks down Megson's achievements and insists that it is all the result of a large team of backroom staff pulling together. GM doesn't like this, anymore than KK liked it at SJP when we were about to become a PLC. I'm afraid that the way he is talking he is a splitter and a traitor and a scumbag, a false prophet who will bugger off as soon as it gets tough. Shocking but true.

Megson has done superbly, deserves all the plaudits he's getting, and it is nice for WBA fans after all this time

Keegan has now taken Newcastle, Fulham and Man City to higher divisions, and taken Newcastle into Europe. Megson has a long way to go, but good luck to him.

KK didn't take Fulham up....

-- Anonymous, April 22, 2002

Not 2nd to 1st, or doesn't that count?

-- Anonymous, April 22, 2002

Ahh I fucked up didn't I......I was getting cocky after picking up Mac on his incorrect estimation of Blackburn and West Hams current form....that'll teach me to type before I think....

Or maybe not :))

WBA are according to reports the most defensive team on the planet - can anybody confirm ?

-- Anonymous, April 22, 2002

They won 17 out of their 52 fixtures this season 1-0.

-- Anonymous, April 22, 2002

I can just hear it "WBA - everyone's 2nd favourite team" - yeh right!

I'm very happy for the Baggies fans, and clearly Megson has done a terrific job to get them up with limited resources, despite playing more boring footy than Liverpool.

Oh and btw - Megson was a soft s**te when he played for the Toon.

Wanna wager a quid that WBA will go straight back down while City stay up, sparxx?

Tsk tsk tsk! Has nobody told Megson that sparxx doesn't make allowances for successful managers having a difference of opiniion as to the direction a club is taking? Another one for the Judas-list:

"West Brom boss Gary Megson has hit out at the club's board just days after securing promotion to the Premiership. Albion clinched their place in the top flight with victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday. But Megson fears he will not receive the necessary support to compete at the highest level next season. He told the Daily Mail: "We must strengthen the squad. It's no good just trying to play catch-up now we're being asked to mix it with the big boys. "I'm not demanding or expecting that we go daft in the financial sense. But things have to change. "To some degree I feel I've been asked to manage with one hand tied behind my back. I could give you a whole list of complaints. "It's been made clear I'm no longer in control of the scouting system. Secondly, I won't have the financial say in terms of which out-of-contract players are offered new deals. "This place is unique. Which other club would declare a £3.9million profit while the manager was trying to find proper training facilities days before deciding its Premiership future?""
