Stiff Little Fingers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

They happened to be down my way on Friday night - what a show!

The thing was they turned up in blue (substitute for white) and black stripe footy garb with a fairly good rendition of the old S&N sponsors logo on it, except SLF was in the place of Newcastle Brown Ale. They were selling the "strips" along with green keeper's shirts with the same logo. So all types caterd for. There was a Geordie behind the stand who said Jake Burns lives in Newcastle now. Any truth behind this?

Still a brilliant band to watch. Would love to know if Jake had picked up some of the Toon culture?

"Fingers !" (clap clap clap) "Fingers !" (clap clap clap)

It's actually quite difficult to recreate the atmosphere of a SLF gig on here, as I'm currently finding ...

Where were they playing Bok ?

Bok...I was in Guernsey on Friday night...and Stiff Little Fingers were supporting The Stranglers at the local leisure centre just across the park from my hotel - was that the gig you were referring to? The Stranglers turfed up in our bar just after midnight as they were staying in the same hotel. Sadly, I'd just gone to bed. Locals who saw Stiff Little Fingers also said they impressed.

SLF were/are one of my all time favourites. Alternative Ulster, 78 rpm, makes me feel like a kid again, watching them at the old Mayfair..........is that still there??

First band i ever saw at the City Hall in '82 aged 11[bake was there n'all]! Fantastic! Was trying to get my 12 yo nephew to catch The Stranglers and SLF in Jersey where he lives [must be tonight]

Anyway, It's definitely true that Jake lives in Newcastle [out Whitley Bay/Tynemouth way i think] and is a big Toon fan.

Billy Furious from The Mag went to see them in NY same time as the WTC attacks - did a big article with the picture of Jake wearing the SLF/United shirt. No one else see it?

...and the Mayfair was knocked down years ago!

;-)

I remember getting kicked out of the dickies show at the mayfair......underage.

Jake Burns has been seen knocking about the toon for a few years now so he must be living back here.

I was never a big fan but my mates are, and when they recognized him they struck up a conversation with him. He definitely goes to watch the toon play and we've seen him on numerous occasions on home match days drinking in 'Bar Oz' in the toon (before the match).

I'm sure we've had this conversation before and I posted this same information ages ago!

I couldn't get in to see the dickies at the Mayfair, I hung about at the back to see if I could sneak in. That plan turned to arse when I watched the moocher bouncers battering someone who'd climbed throught the bog windows.
