light meter

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread

I just found two Cano AE-1's in my garage and I was wondering about the light meter. I can't figure out how to get the needle in the middle of it. I changed the f-stops and shutter speeds, but nothing works. Please help.

The camera needs a battery to function (a PX-28 or equivalent). When you press halfway down on the shutter, the needle will point to the aperture it recommends for the shutter speed you've selected and the current light level. You can then set the aperture above or below the camera's recommendation, or put the aperture on 'A' and let it set it for you automatically.
