Sky High Pollen Count

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News - Homefront Preparations : One Thread

Allergists classify anything over 90 as a high pollen count. On April 17 that number was 2,587 in DC, and it was I'm sure incredibly high in the suburbs too, where I live. I had lunch the following day with a friend who was moaning the blues. I hadn't even noticed (apparently I've totally outgrown the allergy problem I used to have). Anyway, DC's count was an all-time record, indicating that spring has exploded in this area.

Fergit the Kleenex--this is Brawny paper towel time! From what I hear, spring got so hot so suddenly that the flowering plants and trees just shook off pollen like crazy. You might say June is bustin' out all over in April. I have to mow grass tomorrow, or Sweetie does, but we're both sniffling idiots.

I think we had a long soaking rain last night, which should bring some relief to the DC area population. At any rate, my car is no longer yellow. And we really needed the rain.

Boy, do I have azaleas, all over the place. About seven different hues. Certainly beats my previous house, with its three small white- flowering azaleas.

If you like 'em, feed 'em some acid-lovers' food. I used to use Holly-tone in Norfolk and they grew into beautiful bushes loaded with fragrant flowers. Can't give them space here, they don't care for wet feet in winter and the drainage is bad. Besides, not enough bang for my buck! They flower for three weeks then rest on their laurels (so to speak) for the other 49 weeks.
