Flash Bracket for use with M6TTL?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I've just bought a flash cord so I can use my SF20 flash off camera, but I now have a question. Can anyone recommend a flip flash bracket which works well with an M6TTL? I have a stroboframe and it has several holes on the bottom through which I can thread the thubscrew which holds the camera in place, and one of these lines up just fine with the off-center tripod socket on the camera, but it doesn't hold the camera in place very well. The weight of the camera causes it to pivot on the socket. Does anyone use a bracket which works better?

Thanks, Dale Griffith

the stroboframe i had had a smooth metal seating surface along that whole bracket, and glueing some non-slip material along the axis will help.

other than that, there have been bunches of brands over the years -- vivitar may a fairly heavy one, but the shoe also swiveled, and there are some very light weight ones besides stroboframe (some with flip flash). I'd look around, and if your local camera store has a used/discard bin, look through it. Seems to me that most the current ones were designed for medium format/wedding, adn are somewhat large for Leica

The problem with using a flash bracket on an M6 is that heaven forbid you grasp just the camera and let the weight of the bracket+flash hang from the tripod socket, the leverage will likely bend the baseplate. Older M's have a stud on the opposite end of the body over which the old CTOOM flash bracket hooked, taking the weight off the tripod bush. I've heard these studs may be added to current M's, and if so, one of the older Leitz brackets might be just the ticket. Otherwise I would suggest one of the lightweight folding brackets you can find in most big camera stores or order by mail...and *always* hold it by the bracket grip, never just the camera.

why would you want to do that?

Dale,

I use a strobroframe that is actually meant for my Rolleiflex. It works as I keep an Abrahamsson Rapidwinder on my M6. This has a centred mounting hole unlike the regular M baseplate.

I am curious to what flash cord you have for your SF20?
