New Terror Alert

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

The FBI have issued a new alert over possible acts of terrorism in the NE corner of the USA. This information is believed to have come from the interrogation of a high-ranking Al Quaida official who was recently captured.

The alert is targeted psecifically at financial institutions, including High St. Banks, and is believed to relate to the possibility of suicide attacks.

The thought of some fanatic blowing himself up in a crowded High St. Bank is horrific beyond believe - but unfortunately is a very logical outcome of what is occurring in the Middle East. What a world we live in.

I heard a lot of banks in DC were closed on Thursday after they'd found out about this threat. Good time to start putting the money back under the mattress again, I think. ;-)

I wouldn't presume to know much about the problems in Israel/Palestine but I'm appalled at the way the West has stood back and watched while this slaughter continues, breeding more followers for the likes of Bin Liner, and almost guaranteeing us more Terrorist activity in future.

So you know where I'm coming from, it's important to stress that I am an enthusiastic supporter of what has been done in Afghanistan. I'd just like to see us being a little more active in bringing the parties to the negotiation table over the Palestinian question, which seems to breed supporters of Bin Liner and Saddam who welcome this support to back their own insanity and megalomania.

Sharon's policy is bust. Increased retaliation would eradicate the terrorism - that is the policy he sold his people. The terrorism increases daily. He was wrong - and the deaths of his own people and many more opposition, bear appalling testimony to his mistake. He is now reaping a rich harvest of death and human suffering from the seeds of hatred which he has so carefully planted, cultivated and nutured.

It is a total mystery to me how Sharon ever got elected but it tells us more about the mentality of the Israelis than anything else. They suffer from extreme (and to some extent understandable) paranoia.

How can there successful negotiations between a country which it's oppenents think should not exist and a "country" which never has existed as an independent state? Answers on a postcard please to the United Nations.

My memory on the issue is a bit hazy, but I seem to recall when Sharon got elected, many Israelis said he was a dangerous war- monger. I think it was a reaction to what other Israelis perceived as their previous leader being too soft on the Palestinians. For heaven's sake, he actually sat down with that nasty Arafat and tried to negotiate peace! Can't have that. :-|

I don't know what to think about this situation or how this can ever be resolved. How do you make people see the sense in trying to sit down and work out a peaceful solution. Especially when so many of these people are blinded by the natural rage and desire for revenge against whatever past wrongs were done to them?
