Mount Saint Vincent University of Nova Scotia, in partnership with AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia and Jamaica AIDS Support, is one of the awards recipient. The purpose of their project is to foster the adult education competencies of community based HIV/AIDS workers in Jamaica. The intent is to encourage a collaborative learning process between community workers in Nova Scotia and in Jamaica to better understand and respond to the varied challenges of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network, Montreal, Quebec/AIDS Law Project, South Africa The Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network and the AIDS Law Project, South Africa, will strengthen their emerging partnership in HIV/AIDS by using legal and human rights tools to improve access to treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa and other resource-poor countries. This objective will be achieved by advancing discussion and exploration of treatment options, capacity strengthening and exploring how voluntary sector organizations can further work on treatment issues. Canadian Human Rights Foundation, Montreal, Quebec / Coordination of Action Research on AIDS and Migration, Malaysia This project seeks to enhance the protection of migrant workers through better programs that focus on health and vulnerability to HIV/AIDS. The project proposes to develop a regional prevention strategy by consulting non-governmental organizations, international and intergovernmental agencies. Centre hospitalier affilié universitaire de Québec (Québec) / National AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Program, Benin The project proposes the establishment of an STD screening and treatment clinic especially for men who are deemed to be at high risk. Awareness activities are planned for prostitutes in Cotonou. These activities include discussions and presentations on the proper use of condoms, as well as the promotion of health centres. Université de Montréal, Montreal / University of Antananarivo, Madagascar The project will allow the launch of an HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention campaign on the campus of the University of Antananarivo in Madagascar. Université de Montréal and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Antananarivo will work together to develop and conduct a campaign to encourage students to take responsibility for their sexual practices. Canadian AIDS Society, Ottawa, Ontario / Christian Children's Fund (CCF) Belarus The project will allow the organizations to collaborate on the development of a formal network of non-governmental organizations working in HIV prevention and support in Belarus and to facilitate the exchange of resources related to HIV prevention and support for populations at risk. International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO), Toronto, Ontario / Southern African Network of AIDS Service Organizations (SANASO) The purpose of this project is to strengthen the capacity of South African non-governmental organizations, community based organizations and people living with HIV/AIDS by helping to build and sustain a national support network. Polish Lesbian and Gay Association, Toronto, Ontario / National AIDS Centre, Poland The purpose of this project is to establish a partnership with the National AIDS Centre in Warsaw and assist them, through exchange program and workshops, in developing a strategy to serve their community, including drug users and people living with HIV/AIDS. This will include the transfer of knowledge and skills developed in Canada regarding communicating with gay communities about safer sex practices. Programme for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH) Canada, Ottawa, Ontario/Mae Tao Clinic, Thailand This project will help enhance the existing services of the Mae Tao Clinic that serves Burmese migrants and refugees in the remote border regions between Thailand and Burma. The Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention, Toronto, Ontario / Hands International - Guyana The purpose of this project is to reduce the spread of HIV infection in three areas in Guyana and to develop the capacity within those communities to effectively address the issues of HIV/AIDS. The objectives are to increase knowledge and awareness of HIV/AIDS, to develop capacity in the partner organization and to address the social problems faced by surviving friends and family members, including orphans. The purpose of their project is to enhance the skills of the Child Foundation of India and AIDS Calgary in order to improve services for people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. This will be accomplished by both organizations sharing their expertise, experience and resources. Through the training exchanges, Child Foundation of India will be able to learn new and innovative approaches by studying AIDS Calgary's programs. AIDS Calgary staff will also provide hands-on assistance in establishing or strengthening the programs of the Foundation. AIDS Vancouver, in partnership with British Columbia Persons with AIDS Society and Mexican Network of Persons Living with HIV/AIDS, is one of the awards recipients. Their project will help build the capacities of Canadian and Mexican organizations through the exchange of materials on education, sensitization and skills building. The proposal's diverse components include translation and adaptation of materials, the establishment of a web page and the validation of the tools and materials adapted to the Mexican and Canadian contexts.
