Towers of Light...metering techniques?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

hi.

i'm planning to take a photo of the Towers of Light from somewhere in Hoboken tomorrow night...i'll be using Fuji Astia and Kodak Tri-X. what meter setting would you recommend?

on a related note, which location in NJ would provide the best view of the towers?

thanks.

Don't bother, they were shut off last Sat. night.

start with f4 at 1/2 second and then bracket three stops in both directions for the tri-x (assuming an iso of 400). same exposure for the astia, adjusted for whatever iso you want to rate it at.

As mentioned the original 'Towers' were shut off last week. But according to a CNN news announcement plans are under way to install a permanent, scaled down display somethime in the near future.

Sorry, I neglected to mention the best "Jersey side" views of downtown Manhattan are from the financial district district of Jersey City. The easiest way to get in and out of there is via the PATH to Ecxchange Place, take the escalator, go outside and to your right and out onto the dock. Best view from Jersey no doubt.

I shot them from my roof in Brooklyn last week on Velvia (it was in the camera) I bracketed exposure at f8 from about 6 seconds to about 25 secs. The roughly 20 second exposures seemed best. I'll try to scan them tomorrow night if anyone is interested.

I'm shooting a wedding tomorrow, first one with my new CV 21mm. Very excited.
