Onions in raised beds

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

I'm about a month behind in planting onions, I do have some in one of the raised beds. They're doing great so far. I've never had raised beds like these before, they're great. In July, I'll put out another cro of them.

Hey there Cindy. I've got mine in raised beds too and so far they're doing great. I put mine out earlier than normal this year, because we could never grow really big onions. I think I was planting them too late for our climate. Dave has always commented on how his grandpa use to grow the biggest, sweetest onions so I'm taking the challenge this year and see if I can finally get it right! :)

I have also been trying to return my scrap green onion heads to my beds. I take the leftover head and root and quarter it prior to replanting. Looks like a few are resrouting. Just have to see if the quartered ones will resprout as the whole ones do. Just another homestead experiment :>)
