LONDON (Reuters) - Comedian Paul O'Grady, better known to television viewers as the acerbic, cross-dressing "Lily Savage", has suffered a heart attack and is recovering in hospital, a spokeswoman has said.

"Paul suffered a heart attack early Friday morning and was immediately rushed to a London hospital," the spokeswoman said.

"He underwent a two-hour operation and is now resting and recovering".

O'Grady, 46, turned the towering, blonde Lily Savage character into television fixture on breakfast programmes and the Blankety Blank gameshow, where he routinely tore strips off celebrities with his cutting wit. Ed - Not as good as Les Dawson
