Whenever i try to convert and AVI to MPEG, i can only get about 10% of the way throu and the program i am using just quits on me and i have no idea why

TMPGE sucks thats why, get yourself anouther software.

I only use TMPgenc for combining MPGs. it's very easy to do. To convert my AVI to mpg i use avi2vcd, also simple.
