rabbit bites

I was biten through a heavy duty pair of plastic gloves. This nasty 3 lb rabbit bit and held on. Needless to say he is no longer on this earth. Are there health concerns as far as a rabbit bite? I am trying to remember when I had a tetnus shot last. This really hurts.

Tracy, Oh how I know that can hurt. You need to make sure that your Tetnus is current. Otherwise wash the wound well and keep it clean and dry. If it developes any drainage, swelling or pus you may need an antibiotic. If this is a rabbit that you have had, and it was not sick I wouldn't worry about it. If you have any concern that it was ill contact your doctor or vet. I have been bit several times over the years and only once did I need antibiotic. Also you did right by putting it down, no need to keep a biting rabbit! Denise

Ouch! One of my rabbits bit me last year, right through the end of my index finger. It seemed to take forever to heal, and I guess she bit through a nerve, because I've got a dull spot there now that doesn't have any feeling. I don't think there are any special health concerns - just keep it clean and let it heal.

BTW - the rabbit that bit me? She tasted great! :-)

Just out of curiousity, why isn't the rabbit on this earth anymore?
