Do both the Elan II and Elan IIE support E-TTL?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I ran across some confusing information.

I am looking to pick up a back-up camera for my Eos-3

Do both of these Elan II (50) and Elan IIE (50E) support E-ttl?

They were the first cameras to support E-TTL, in fact.

Because they were the first EOS cameras to support E-TTL, the implementation is not as complete as on a later camera bodies. Specifically, you might find that the EOS 50E does not support modelling flash or wireless E-TTL ratio control. For that you will need an Elan 7E or better.

In every case where two EOS bodies have the same name except for the presence or absence of an e (Elan II/IIe, EOS 50/50e, Elan 7/7e, A2/A2e), the bodies are also the same except for the presence or absence of ECF.

There are some cases where the same body has slightly different features in different markets (e.g. the A2e and the EOS 5 - same body, but the 5 adds a proper exposure scale in metered manual mode), but then again, "A2e" and "5" aren't the same name :-)
