Who plans to do what over the summer and what excuses will you use to get out of working for the England matches?

I plan to work from home those days....but my new boss informs me she plans to close the office on England Matches :o)

I hope england go out in the first round, all the crappy hype really bugs me and I find myself supporting anyone BUT england...

Gav, trust you,you have to be the Leonard Cohen of this BBS. Ignore the hype and just enjoy the footy. Let's face it, whether we progress or not, there'll be a lot of crap but there'll also be some sublime stuff, and some new faces coming through for Manure and Arse to chase. I'm bringing a telly into the office for the odd occassion I don't watch from a pub/home. We've already got the office fridge well stocked. Just think how dull the summer normally is while we're all waiting for the pre-season friendlies to get started.

The baby is due on the 8th of June, and thanks to the French social security system I get 14 days paid parental leave. No need to make excuses to get out of work. Mind you, I don't think there'll be too many English games on French TV.

I'll be supporting Ingerland in the WC and the Test Matches. I'll be full of hopes, and almost certainly end up disappointed. Much like supporting The Toon, actually.

I'll end up consoling myself by looking forward to what is hopefully a CL campaign and chasing every rumour of who we are "about to sign" - only to find that particular rumour "is well wide of the mark" by the time The Ronnie has been printed. Life just goes on.

Your forward planning has to be commended Kiwi!!

Now if I can just work out how to get Sky over here instead on Canal+. They insist on showing all this French football!

Kiwi, gusvision delay?

-- Anonymous, April 17, 2002

You got anyone in the uk who's address you can use for a sky contract? then all you've got to do is take the dish, box and card over there....face the dish due south and bingo you're off :)

Alternatively i'm certain there will be people who can install it for you in france...have you managed to find any english pubs that have it? if so ask them installed theirs.....how close are you to switzerland? there are shitloads of firms over there who do it and I could dig you a number up.... :))

Oh and BIG congrats on the little un!

Trying to connect a satellite to my video recorder!

-- Anonymous, April 17, 2002

It's a long way to Switzerland, and there are no English pubs around. Plenty of Irish ones though.

The little one is going to change a few things, when it finally arrives. My wife has been confined to bed since the start of January and can't wait for the birth. And to top it off we've bought a house. That's providing I sort out the French red tape. It's amazing how much tax has to be paid over here when you buy a house.

I didn't think the WC existed on Sky. Don't ITV and the Beeb share it? If I remember rightly this is what happened last time.

If you can set up a dish can you get BBC Digital without Subscribing to Sky?

Back to Jay's original question....

Pending the checking of references(who all decided to take vacation this week, apparently!) on Monday, it looks as though I will be working in a real job again. Just got a conditional offer, and I enquired about flexible scheduling in June. I may or may not have morning physical therapy appointments on certain days. That's my excuse. ;-)))

Well done! ... did you grill them about internet access? ;-)

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2002

Bloody hell, I'm writing a bloody thesis. That's what I'm going to be bloody doing. Still, almost finished. Only another 16,000 words to go.....

So that's painting the shed (because it really really needs painting), fixing the back gate, hoovering the loft, I might try me hand at dying some clothes, a couple of jigsaws maybe, alphabetising my wardrobe, sorting record collection into two piles (still listened to and only listened to when drunk and maudlin), and perhaps a bit of sunbathing if the weather’s up for it, oh and my thesis.

Gibbo when you dye the clothes scrunch them up really tight before you put the elastic band on or you will not get those really cool circle type effect.

Apparently so my mam telt me like........

Great news about the job Ciara - well done!

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2002

Haha nice one ciara! i'm very impressed by your forward planning...not quite in kiwi's league it would seem! but better than mine definitely! :))

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2002

Ho Ho!!

Self-employed and Sky in the office. Early starts though...:(

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2002

There's no way I'd go to Kiwi's extremes. I don't want to spend 18+yrs supporting my excuse! ;-)

And, Geordie, internet access is a given...I'll be a webmaster. Muahahahahaha!

Well done Ciara, you'll be able to afford to renew your ST now! ;-)
