ARSENAL & MAN U GIVEN FIXTURE DEADLINE

Manchester United and Arsenal have until Friday to reach an agreement over the date for their potentially crucial Premiership clash at Old Trafford next month.

Maybe we'll have some slip up's with all this arguing. If they cannot agree the Premier League board will have to make a ruling on when the game is to be played.

Originally it was fixed for Wednesday May 8, but United now want their penultimate domestic match brought forward 24 hours to help with their preparations for the Champions League final on May 15, should they beat Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals.

Arsenal have refused to adhere to the switch, however, as they face Chelsea in Cardiff on May 4, a match which could conceivably run into extra-time.

Their need for recuperation time - United are not in action that weekend - means the London club are unlikely to budge on a match which could decide the destiny of the title.

Meanwhile, fellow championship contenders Liverpool have also asked for their match against Blackburn, which is scheduled for May 5, to be played on the same date as the big showdown in order to shut out any advantage the pair might have in knowing the Reds' result.

Well, for once, I'm on @rse's side this time. As much as I'd like to see both teams below us, it ain't gonna happen. In the interests fairness, I think Wednesday is the best date, giving @rse 2 clear days to recover from their Sunday match while also allowing MoanU 2 clear days before any possible Saturday game and a whole week before the CL game.

Call me old fashioned, but in the olden days, as I remember, games were usually played on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Probably for some good reason! Accept it, or accept the consequences if you pander to the Lord Sky Almighty.

Ah yes - the olden days - I remember them well. Games were indeed played on a Saturday and sometimes Wednesday, and there'd be a clip round the ear from the local constabulary if these norms were not adhered to.

As far as I can remember anyway.
