Columbine third anniversary - pictures

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Saturday, April 20 will be the 3rd anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre in Littleton, Colorado.

Here are my memorial pictures.

Sorry they weren't taken with Leica (we were all young and foolish once, right?) But at least I was on the right track (Contax G/21/35/90).

Critiques gratefully accepted.

Thanks Andy. I was living overseas back then and it was really strange watching this unfold on satellite TV, while trying to explain to the foreign nationals how this is not the norm for the States. I like this photo best because of the mood and timelessness of it.

Nice shots, Andy. I can't beilieve it's been three years since that all happened! I REALLY like the shot of the cross!!

I also noticed the sharpness and contrast of the Zeiss lenses....(couldn't help it...had to throw that in!).

Thanks for the memorial tribute, Andy, I liked the shot on the mountain top best myself. Very spiritual.

Andy, I have always enjoyed looking at your images and this time has been no different. I particularly like the shots of the hill and the condolence note board. I would like to see more if you get the time to put them up. A great view of the result of a terrible tradegy. It would've also been better if you got closer shots of people showing their emotions, but I assume it would've been difficult for many reasons including respect.

Good work mate:-)

reading the pictures left to right, I found the first two excessively wide angle - too stylised for my taste, esp. considering the solmemnity of the subject matter (I suppose I thing wide angle is a bit sensationalist/trivial - do others disagree with me? quite probably, ho hum). The next 2 I really liked, the final one could of used fractionally more depth of field so that a viewer could make out, even vaguely, who/what is in the field behind. I think, despite my criticisms, that this is fine work - just felt like giving some (hopefully constructive) criticism.

Wonderful pictures. They are nice individually, and are even stronger as a short essay. I like the simplicity and focus (artistically, not technically speaking). Thank you for posting them.

Good work, Andy. Thanks !

"simplicity and focus (artistically, not technically speaking)" Yes indeed.
