England midfielder Kieron Dyer wants to commit his future to Newcastle before the World Cup, according to reports. Dyer has two years to run on his current contract but has been linked with a host of other clubs, including Premiership rivals Leeds. Now he has said that his admiration for boss Bobby Robson will keep him at St James Park. "He's the reason we have been talking about a new contract," Dyer said. "I've said many times that he is like my second dad. I owe him a great deal. "There's talk of a new contract and it should hopefully be signed soon - before the World Cup," said Dyer. "One of the reasons is because of Bobby Robson. He's just a legend."

Brilliant news. Shows that Dyer may not be as stupid as we are generally led to believe. It should also help him while he is away to try and tap up any up and coming players like Wayne Bridge.

What we have to remember is that all the players who go to the world cup, and become stars, will start next season on a downer. It will be a big challenge for us as fans to try and remember that Dyer and Given are class and that any dip in form next season is a temporary thing

He actually sounded fairly intelligent in his sky interview last night....I was ever so slightly impressed as i'd had the impression he was a bit of a 'beckham'....

He told reporters that he'd recovered from the same injury as Beckham pretty quickly and could have come back sooner but the "old gaffer wrapped him in cotton wool". Nice picture.

NOt quite the same injury - Becks has a broken bone (presumably snapped) whereas LKD's was a stress fracture. Now, I'm no medic (thank God - Ed) but I don't know if a clean break is better or worse than a stress fracture. Anyway - LKD took 8 weeks or so to recover but reckons in this morning's Journal that he could have been back earlier. Hmm.
