Young Kevin's new contract

Just lifted this from Sporting Life:

Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer has revealed his intention to sign a new contract at St James' Park before the start of the World Cup - and all because of Bobby Robson.

Dyer would be deluged with lucrative offers from Europe's biggest clubs if he ever announced a desire to leave the north-east.

However, the 23-year-old midfielder, who is due to return to the England side this week against Paraguay, wants to pledge his long-term future to Newcastle.

"I've got two years left on my current contract from the start of next season but the chairman was on the phone to my agent earlier today and a new deal should hopefully be sorted before the World Cup," he said.

"Then I can hopefully go to the World Cup and play a major part for England."

Dyer, who would be likely to increase his wages to almost £50,000 a week, has been impressed with the progress Newcastle have made, challenging for the title at one point while still being on course for the Champions League.

However, it is the influence of Robson, whom he describes as being like a second father, that is the key for the midfielder, who has come through several bouts of controversy before and after his £6million move from Ipswich.

Dyer said: "The manager has said he didn't just want to make me a better footballer, he wanted to make me a better person.

"I've said many times that he is like my second dad. I owe him a great deal. There's talk of a new contract and it should hopefully be signed soon.

"One of the reasons is because of him. He's just a legend."

Dyer has been involved in several off-pitch incidents as well as having to cope with two serious injuries over the past couple of years.

Robson has come into his own on each occasion.

"It's not all about his tactical skills, he's a great man-manager," added the England international.

"He knows when to hammer you - and I've had a few of them - but he also knows how to pick you up when you're down. He's been brilliant to me and I owe him a great deal."

Good news, even better that it should be sorted before the world cup, which could make his wage demands spiral.

The worrying thing is £50k a week would set a benchmark for the new arrivals who would look at Dyer and want the same.

Why cant Robson be like 50 so he could be our manager for another 10 years. I dont dare to think of the day when he steps back.

He will die while managing us. Unless he is diagnosed with something like Cancer then he'll quit.

He could be here in 7 years. Look at his fitness.

When he dies, the geordies should come up with something amazing. More amazing than when the QM died. Perhaps sitting silently through 90 minutes. Somethig memorable. He deserves it.

I hope he doesn't read these bbs! I'm sure he'll live for at least another 10 years. And as long as he lives, he'll manage us. So there's no need to speculate yet.

"Perhaps sitting silently through 90 minutes. "

I can think of a few occasions in the past 3 years when we've almost managed that one...
