Cooking Rice in the crockpot??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Anyone cook it in the crockpot? I bought this blend of rice with 6 different varieties, it looks very good. Some days it is pretty busy here, and I wondered about just sticking it in the crockpot and when supper rolls around it is ready!! any tips, advice, ideas????

I've never tried cooking rice in the crockpot - I cook it in the microwave. It's so easy, and it comes out perfect everytime. Just put as much rice as you want in a large bowl and add a little salt and oil. Stir it to coat the rice with the oil. Then add twice as much hot water as you did rice. Cover the bowl and microwave on high for 7-8 minutes, or until the water boils. Then cook on 1/2 power or medium for 15 minutes. Uncover (carefully - watch out for the steam!) and fluff with a fork. It's perfect everytime, and so easy!!!

I have had the same rice pot for the last 20 years. I love it. I can put a pot of rice on in the morning and it cooks it and keeps it warm till dinner, and its not sticky. I don't think I could make rice any more without it. LOL

Could you please tell us exactly how you do it? High heat or low? I would rather do low, but may need to do high somedays. How long do you cook it?

I have not tried it yet... I am going to though, eventually!! When I do I will let you all know how it turns out.
