We're half-way to the UEFA Cup?

With Arsenal winning, if Chelsea win too, then we're in the UEFA Cup definitely. We'll know by 8.45.

I think people have got the wrog idea about this. There are 3uefa cup places. One for the winner or Fa cup, One for winnder of FA cup, and one for 5th place.

I know what you're saying about if Arse win FA cup then an extra league team gets europe. But it is actually the losing finalist. So if Fulham get to final and get beat by arse who are already in europe then fulham get thateurope spot. The guy on century worked out that Borough could get beat in SF and still get the eufa spot providing chelsea beat fulham, then the finalist gets into europe anyway by finishing in to 5. Then if borough finish above Fulham they're in Europe.

Jim that sounds very complicated but strangely logical. But things are panning out our way because are Chelsea are now 1 up on Fulham and this would mean that we would get an Uefa place even if we're 6th. So we're 3/4 of the way and one hour away now.

Jim, in that case, the sixth place team would get a UEFA spot, neither Fulham or Boro would get it. It's explained on another thread, somebody who I can't remember the name of got the rules from the FA website.

Explained...

Actually that link doesn't explain anything, ignore it :)

Jim I've just read your post again and now I am not so sure after all. If Chelsea and Arsenal are in the final then whoever wins, Chelsea get a UEFA place, because Arsenal are already in Champions League. If Chelsea also get a Champs League place then their FA Cup UEFA place goes to someone else. I can see that. But you're saying that it goes to one of the other FA Cup Semi-finalists not to someone in the League top 6, and then they go back to see where the two finished in the League to decide who. Seems a VERY odd way of working it out. Is that actually written in the rules somewhere?

Whatever, I think it's better for us for Chelsea to get into the final, not Fulham, otherwise the last UEFA place definitely would go to Fulham instead of us.

BBC just said that Fulham haven't had to play a Premiership team to get to the semi final, so it would be just typical if they got a UEFA Cup place on the strength of beating Wycombe, York, WBA, etc!

I just thought of something else if you're right Jim. How about us getting into Champion's League or Uefa Cup, plus with your rule Boro in Uefa Cup too, and Sunderland ... Not

We're there!!

Chelsea win. So .... is it us or Boro in the UEFA Cup?????

-- Anonymous, April 14, 2002

Us.... the place is ONLY transferable to the losing finalist. So out UEFA places are Blackburn + 2 of Chelsea, Us or Leeds... i.e. the ones that finish 5th and 6th in the League. 4th, of course, is the CL.

I'm pretty sure got it right. Unless chelsea fail to finish in the to 5 then Borough go into Euefa cup providing they finish higher than Fulham

Where did you hear this from Jim?

I've been trying to follow this European place thingy on about five threads for the last month, and after much effort and attention to every bit of detail you lot seem to be able to dredge up, guess what, I still haven't a clue what the hell it means to us. So I'm just gonna wait a few more weeks, then I'll know for sure that none of it matters 'cos we'll be in the CL, albeit round three (see, I managed to grasp that much). Thanks to each and every anorak out there, but it's giving me a headache
