Because of the form we found in December. When we all expected to slip back to mid table we racked up the points.

apart from this period our results have been those of a mid table club. W,L,D,D, W, L etc etc...

Yeh but if you look at Man U's results between mid October and mid December they read P8 W1 D1 L6 Pts 4. So if it wasn't for September, January, February, March and April they would be relegated!

And it wasn't just December Jim. We went two months undefeated between the start of Jan and the start of March. I think there has been more to out season that an exciting blip in December!

We also had a run after that when we won 6 in a row, and we haven't been beaten by a non top 6 team for 5 months (or about that)

I'm not saying these results were bad. There was another 4 wins in a row after that period Tott, Bolton, S'hampton, S'land. But that is nothing compared to Charlton Ipswich Blackburn Arsenal Leeds United Middlesbrough.

Sorry that was 5 in a row, and yes it included cup games. Although they don't get you league points, continuing a winning run is always better than getting beaten.
