I want Chelsea to beat Manure

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Because if they do, and the Arse, who have a superb away record, beat a much depleted Reds team at OT, then we could well nick third place. Manure have got Beckham out, Keane out and possibly Veron out - they have two semi-finals against the Jormans. Why settle for fourth?

A bit oPtimistic?

4th would suit me fine Jacko - even with a qualifying round.

If this scenario also means Manure don't win the title, then even better! ;-)

I'll take 4th please. 3rd is also a qualifying round.

-- Anonymous, April 14, 2002

i don't think it is?

Isn't 3rd and 4th both qualifying? The only difference is that 3rd plays in the later stage of qualifying while 4th starts off early.

I thought 3rd went straight in and 4th was a qualifier.

I'll have to find the rules - UEFA website??

It turns out Geordie and Gene are right, although Gene is not completely spot on :)

3rd and 4th both go into a qualifying round, but both of them go in at the same stage.

That's unless the rules have changed this season compared with last.

.......so, does 4th play in one or two Qualifying rounds to qualify for the first round of mini-leagues?

-- Anonymous, April 14, 2002

Both 3rd and 4th play in one qualifying round.

Both enter at the Third round of qualifying.

I wasn't thinking of finishing third to get out of the qualifying competition - I just thought it would be funny to be above Manure!

-- Anonymous, April 14, 2002

Aye, it would, but in terms of reward it is quite a risk to cheer on Chelsea when they could be so close behind us.

-- Anonymous, April 14, 2002

Although it would be funny if they didn't get in the CL at all :)

-- Anonymous, April 14, 2002

They only need one more point from 4 games to guarantee a CL place. It would be funny - but highly unlikely!

-- Anonymous, April 14, 2002

Yeah it is pretty unlikely though I agree.

It would be even funnier if Arsenal finished 5th (is that possible??)

English 4th go in at final qualifying round, same time as Scottish champions :0) I woudl very much not like to play Celtic

-- Anonymous, April 14, 2002

I like your thinking, Jacko. :-)

What happens if Chelsea are third, we're 4th and Manure are 5th and they win the Champions League? There's another thread where this scenario of potentially 5 clubs getting Champs League football, would 4th place be sacrificed for the winners (being from the same country) ?

-- Anonymous, April 15, 2002

yes

-- Anonymous, April 15, 2002

70 points should do us. If Leeds win all their remaining games which is a distinct possibility then they will have 69. Lets hope that ManU beat Chelsea then we only need to win 2 out of our remaining 4.

The two home games are really the key games, and the crowd as well as the team need to be up for them, not shout abuse at the players.

We could, should and WILL make the CL

The topic is "I want Chelsea to beat Manure "

I think after that horrible scenario of finishing 4th and not getting in, I want Manure to beat Chelsea would be my topic :)
