Will Bobby learn from today?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

The subs today really changed things around. It's got to be worth starting the line up that finished today's match, next week. At the very least, it's got to be clear Shearer and Cort together is not going to work, and we do have other options that must be tried.

I missed the subs, which were they?

llua for cort, bernard for o brien, jenas for shearer. immediately we were like early season...

I am sure there is not a person on this BBS that would play Shearer and Cort together at 3:00 next Saturday.

By the sound of the last 15 minutes the combined efforts of LLL, Bernard and Jennas seemed to transform the team.......

So it looks like Shearer and Cort to start again next week!!

I would never play Shearer and Cort together, even if they were fully fit.

They are far too similar to ever work together, Bellamy with either of those two would probably work, but not Cort and Shearer.

Hopefully BR realises this now.

PS. I liked Luax2 celebration! I wanna see more of that.....

Ciara, you are right, but I can guarantee that Cort/Shearer will start next Sat with Bellamy on the bench.

Proove me wrong Bob!

Looks as though Shearer will definitely be out, so no choice but to start LuaLua or Bellamy(if fit).

Aye Ciara: pacy football that would be.

It was really a tale of two teams, the one that started and the one from 73mins on. The former was basically what we been doing for the last 5-6 matches excluding Everton. The latter was a good example of a team with pace, skill and attacking onus.

I wouldn't want to be in YBR's shoes when he decides on next weeks team. While the worrisome aspect of the 17min team would be defense. one thing that might work in our favour would be that Wham, Soton, Charlton have nothing to play for and thus might not be too into the game. So IMO, play the team that finish today's game, they have shown they can attack together. Reward them for the way they possibly earn the club millions in revenue for next season in today's game.

Most of us, on the evidence of the last thirty minutes can feel vindicated. Unless Bobbie has gone completely senile, the Cort/Shearer partnership is dead and buried. If Shearer is unfit next week i would go with the the midfield of Solano/Dyer/Jenas/Robert with Bellamy/LuaLua upfront. This is the midfield combination which won the game today and it and LuaLua deserve another chance to show their mettle.

What's the betting Al is out and YBR starts with Cort and either Lx2 or Bellamy, or Lx2 then Bellamy. Not advocating it, just fearful it will happen

Floridian - you're forgetting that Gary Speed also played in m/f today. Imo Speed was one of our better players throughout the game today, and provided a platform for Solano, JJ, Dyer, Lx3, and Robert to work their magic in the final 20 minutes.

I'd like to sleep on what we should take from todays amazing game before considering next week. However, I would be VERY disapointed if BR doesn't now clearly recognise the flaws in the team he has been putting out since CB was injured. The incredible contrast between the first 70 minutes and the the final 20 minutes was there for all to see today.

I tend to agree, and I said after Wednesday's resorves match that Lua x2 should have started instead of Cort. However, lest we all get carried away with 17 mins of scintillating football, let's remember that it was the last 17 mins, when Derby were more knackered. Still, it's bliddy obvious that pace is more effective than big target men for us.
