[HELP] If I got bit by a baby snake, would I know it?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News - Homefront Preparations : One Thread

I know the snakes are starting to come out... here's the deal.

I planted two rose bushes right by the tree line where they will get afternoon sun. Anyways, I felt something on the inside of my leg when I got up. I didn't see anything when I brushed my leg. It is right where the leg meets the crotch.

Anyway, I pick up the packing and shovel and walk back to the house. It takes about 5 minutes. The place is hurting, feeling like the undies are really digging in that area. I go into the house to look, and see something that looks like a huge boil there. I see two faint marks on the spot. It hurts like hell. I got a pin and poked it to drain any fluid that was in it (and there was a lot of clear fluid) until the blood started to flow.

If it was a snake, it had to have been a baby. The spot wasn't there when I had changed my clothes not 10 minutes earlier than when I felt it.

Thanks, apoc

Do you have poison snakes there?? you didn;t SEE any?/ wonder if it was a spider??? how is the bite locale, now??? if hurting, or you are having trouble breathing.....get to the dr!!!

the bite marks are about 1/4" apart. I'm feeling fine now, but am watching my breathing. What a time for hubby to be gone. I've called my MIL to have her call me and check in the morning first thing. If I don't answer she's going to come straight here. I hate hospitals, especially on Friday nights, thus my not wanting to go.

I didn't see anything, and this 'thing' just popped up! It is in that sensitive area and at such an angle that I can't see if there are any more marks. If it was a spider, it would have had to be a huge one, and I would have seen it because I hate spiders so. I have spider radar. LOL! I hate snakes too, but I get out of the way from them. If it was a baby snake, it had to have been a just hatched one.

We have cotton mouths here (but I wasn't close to any water), rattle snakes, and copperheads. If I had to pick (if it is actually a snake bite), I'd say it was a copperhead.

call the nearest hospital, stress that you do not want to drive yet, and descibe it to them. see what they say.

if it happened to be a brown recluse spider, it would start to appear as a rainbow looking target, as in a dart board sort of way. If so, get thee to a doctor pronto.

Just waiting to hear what this turned out to be...

I'm fine.

I was on the way to the hospital when I saw an ambulance crew sitting in a parking lot awaiting a call (I guess). I went up to them and had them look at it.

It was strange having two unknown gentlemen looking and poking around in that area. They said it wasn't a snake or spider bite. They spent about 30 minutes with me. They were nice cause they didn't even charge me! LOL I guess it isn't everyday that a woman walks up, spreads her legs and says "I need you to look at this". They did get a good chuckle. After their initial chuckle, they were very professional. They said that it could be a reaction to a fire ants or a sting by a scorpion. The scorpions we have here aren't bad, just hurt. Can't kill ya.

apoc who is now determined to wear long pants when working out in the yard.

I've had bites like that--could have been a spider that bit twice! Or an ant of some sort, doesn't have to be a fire ant. Yep, I tell myself I'll be wearing long pants next time but you have to tuck them inside your socks to be effective and I hate the way that feels. My compromise is to wear long pants but to spray the bottoms with Off!-- shoes too. Not a good idea to put that stuff right on your skin.

While we're talking yard stuff, I bought two heliotrope plants yesterday--annuals, but highly recommended for fragrance and a pretty royal purple color. Heliotrope's pet name is "cherry pie," cos that's what it's supposed to smell like. Just smells good to me and the perfume carries, especially on a hot humid day. Buy some and plant it where you can smell it as you pass by. Mmmm!

BTW, Big Lots has some fountains for 40-60 bucks. Nothing like a trickly water sound to cool you off on a hot day, right SAR?

We've had nineties here. Bloody outrageous. Somebody should do something. It's only the middle of April. Last frost date is, I believe, April 20. HA!
