M6 Battery holder parts help

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

On a recent trip I lost the battery screw (that holds the battery in place) located in front of the M6. This can cause one big problem if you are using the Leica flash at night. Where can I replace this part? Thank you very much- it is apprecited.

Hi Eddie, Assuming that you are in the USA, your best bet would be to contact Leica USA in New Jersey. They can ship you the M6 battery cover. See this link:

OPS, the link did not work. Take the space out of the URL between

"leica- camera" to read "leica-camera"

do yourself a favor and order two at once!! you can also use a SMALL dab of the lower strength loc-tite to keep things in place

If you are in the U.S. call Dave Elwell at Leica Parts in N.J. 1-800- 222-0118 X225.

This is ironic because I could never get the standard cover off, myself! So I had a couple machined with a sort of tab on the front which acts as a little handle to screw them in and out. Which, for the couple of times a year I need to do it, makes the whole thing much easier.

Leica should design a better battery cover for us to use. My suggestion is that the battery cover should have a coin slot, I do not care how it will look like, such that it can be tightened and untightened in a more sure way without using our poor thumbs. My battery cover was very tightly screwed even one of my local camera repair shops could not open it.

When I called Leica they had two battery screws the old and a new one . The new one was a retro-fitted screw that had a slot in the middle to tighten with a coin. After my horrible experience of going dead at night I ordered two retro-fitted ones. Hopefully, this will solve the problem and I will just be left with an extra battery screw holder. They were $24.00 each with shipping included.
