Lens auto focus malfunction

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I accidently dropped my camera on the floor. The auto focus stopped working until I changed lenses then it worked fine. The other lens works manually but will not focus in auto. What could be the problem and can I fix it myself? Thanks

Answers

It's broken. It's not user repairable. Take it to a camera repair shop or to Canon.

Hello Nosferatu,

Scary stuff! Are you sure your lens is really dead? Or undead?

Perhaps you could leave the lens in a dark room, and check the AF after sunset?

How will that help Julian ?

Nosferatu seems to be an allusion to the 1922 F.W. Murnau classic horror silent film inspired by Bram Stokers novel Dracula.

I consider this post a troll.

When auto focusing, the lens moves but not all the way causing a blur image. It feels like its jammed since it wont extend fully. The problem does not occur when manual focusing is being used. Thanks for any reply.
