There may be trouble ahead

Some fella was on the 3 Leg Ends tonight and intimated that Shearer hobbled out of training very upset (threw his boots apparently). He didn't name names but it had to be either Dyer or Shearer and he was on about how we are in trouble with Bellamy being out.

thanks for making my evening :-(

If Shola was fit I'd be okay about this. Last season we couldn't cope with the loss of Shearer either, but in stepped Shola. This year if Shearer we'd probably have to put some unheard of unblooded, useless tosser like Chopra in, probably make the same mess Shola did, I hope. We may have to play Dyer ans Chopra up front together and suffer the consequences.

Well, it's obviously a loss, but everyone has been saying how Shearer and Cort can't play together. Why not try Cort and another? Cort and Lua Lua or Cort and Bellamy?

What do you mean by "it had to be either Dyer or Shearer"?

Do you mean the one that is injured?

apologies - but I've lost this one

3 leg Ends - some fella?

Is Shearer/Dyer crocked?

am I missing something in Ramsgate

I hope it was Al rather than Dyer (sorry clarky). Maybe he threw his boots after YBR told him he wasn't playing on Saturday!

-- Anonymous, April 11, 2002

Shearer had apparently been told he was in Erikssons plans as a right winger as he was the best English crosser in the country after Becks

I hope it's nothing too serious, if it's Shearer. It would be nice to see him get his 200th league goal before this season is over.

If he is out, this is a good opportunity see if Cort has a chance at being the new Shearer. I like the suggestion of Lx3 starting, with Bellamy(if fit) coming on for the last 20min or so. Or maybe Cort alone up front with Robert, Speed, Jenas, Dyer, Solano in the middle?

I think Cort and Shearer as a partnership is never going to work, I am surprised even BR hasn't noticed this, especially after praising Lua so much in the press.

Lua must think BR is taking the p*ss, praising him highly then not even bringing him on as a sub for the next three games.

Strange mind games...

If it was either of them it would be all over the papers. I think it might be some wind up.........here's hopin'

Rumour has it it's aal aboot after last night's performance, Marcelino will be drafted into the side for Saturday ;-))

I just re-read Softie's original posting. The caller on the 3 Leg Ends didn't say who was very upset when leaving training, but intimated that it was Shearer. But it may not, and Softie is suggesting it could have been Little Kevin.

YBR said in yesterday's Journal that CB isn't even in training, so that possibly means he will not figure on Saturday. Maybe it's Cort (tho I doubt it). Whatever, we have options. If it's Shearer, than we can play Cort and Lua x2, or move LKD further forward (but not JJ!) If it's LKD, we've done OK without him and we could do worse than bring in Acuna or Bernard, and with Speed now fit and Jenas, we have enough cover in the middle anyway. Maybe the upset was WC related? Another break-down in training for LKD would just about scupper his chances.

Oh Syme - by the time training was over, the papers had been printed. But nowt on .COM

I meant the online versions of the media, normally they just lap this stuff up. still in the frozen tundra? must've skipped past me again then!

The 3 leg ends is a radio phone in every week night on Century FM. It's actually the 3 Legends with Bernie Slaven for the Boro, Eric Gates for the mackems and SuperMac for us.

The guy didn't name names because he hoped it would all be okay but he said it was a vital player and considering as how we was mainly calling to let this woman know where the new training ground is (she had called the club and been told "You are not welcome there") I saw no reason to dismiss it as someone embellishing on something his mate said in the pub. He had said how Cort clearly isn't fit yet and that CB not training makes it difficult for us so this unnamed player going down is a huge blow. That can only mean Robert, Shearer or Dyer to me, but since he didn't say anything along the lines of , "Some people won't mind this but..." I dismissed it being Robert and reckon it must be Dyer or Big Al. Seeing as how the most crucial shortcomings currently on display are up front, I'd go for Shearer.

If Shola were fit I'd be beaming from ear to ear since it is the only way he'd get a game, but seeing as how our back 5 keep hoofing the ball up to avoid it being given away in midfield then I'd rather it was Cort out than Shearer just now since at least Al can win balls in the air occasionally which is a damn site more than Cort, Lx3 or Chopra will be able to do. Don't anyone kid themselves that we'll adapt back to a passing game if there's no "target man" up front. They've forgotten everything that having Bellamy has taught them.

Cheer us all up, why don`t you Softie! (;o)

Its Keiron Dyer.

According to reports in the papers, his shin splints are back!

-- Anonymous, April 12, 2002

From SoccerNet:

Dyer limped off Newcastle's training field after pulling up with no one near him yesterday and manager Bobby Robson's subsequent assertion that he was struggling on the hard ground does not bode well for a summer tournament to be played in a hot climate.

Robson said: 'The ground was hard because we had no rain and it has not been watered. After an hour of training he began to feel it in his shin and had a reaction.'

I would just like to point out, in case anyone has jumped to the wrong conclusion, that I am not the woman in question! (;o)

However, I would like to know whether the implication was that no-one is welcome at the training ground, or was it just this woman?(:o)

-- Anonymous, April 12, 2002

I would have thought any intimation of a crucial player limping off injured, buggering our end of season plans, would have to indicate Robbie Elliott!

-- Anonymous, April 12, 2002

Just call me the harbinger of doom.

Galaxy, the official line from the club is now that the training ground is private and they don't encourage the "public" (i.e. Paying Customers) to go down there. However, as people have phoned in and pointed out, the public highway doesn't belong to NUFC or British Gas and you get a canny view from along the fence.

Are they training by Coach Lane Campus then? Many an evening of debauchery with trainee teachers down there...eeh

-- Anonymous, April 12, 2002

I would hope the club put it more nicely than "You're not welcome there"(Perhaps, "I'm sorry, the training ground is closed to the public."), but sadly I wouldn't be surprised if they said it that way.

Very bad news about Dyer.

...shared experiences there Bobby, although a few years earlier for me!

I don't believe the training ground is on Coach Lane. A few months ago they were training at the massive 'new' DHSS site along Whitley Road, next to BG's Blue Flame Ground, which in turn is next to Darsley Park where the construction of the Academy appears to have started. I did hear a story that more recently they have actually used the Blue Flames facility, but none of these is particularly accessible for public viewing.

Yeah Clarky, they were using the Blue Flames facility not long ago.
