Big turnout ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Looks like they're expecting a sizeable turnout for the reserves tonight. Official site has the game v L'pool at SJP.

Might be worth a dabble.

First time since Solano's had his first resorve team game. Good game in store tonight against mid table Liverpool. We have one home game - tonight - and three away. We are three points behind the Smogs so we have a canny chance of winning the resorve le?, errmm! hang on, who am I kidding.

Aye I was there, and got well and truly p*ssed off at what seemed like hundreds of latecomers.

I thought I'd sit behind the railing so I had a bit leg room (being 6ft 5in and all that) and then even 10 minutes after kick off there were streams of people walking past and blocking my bloody view. One stupid bint stopped right in front and started talking on her mobile phone with her back to the pitch.

Good match though, and the atmosphere was better than against Fulham. There was one nutcase who kept going on about how Bradley Orr was world class compared with Laurent Robert, which I had to laugh at.

Offiong IS Carl Cort, in the way he runs, the way he moves and even the way he shoots. The similarites are remarkable. Chopra took his goal superbly - he looks like a proper striker, not someone who plays in the hole or goes wide a lot - a REAL striker.

McClen and Kerr stood out in midfield, and Bernard was solid at left back, although to be fair Liverpool's right side was very poor.

One thing I did notice was that the Liverpool players went to ground remarkably easy, something I also noticed when watching my cousin playing for the under 9 NUFC team against Liverpool at the weekend. The U9 player for the scousers was very talented, but made several blatant dives, arms in the air and everything.

I sincerely hope that they aren't teaching kids to dive to win free kicks. If this is what's going on, football is heading in the wrong direction. It is cheating, plain and simple.

On a side-note, Liverpool's Academy was superb. There were pitches of the right size with proper sized nets for each age group. The grass itself was kept in as good condition as SJP has been like recently. My cousin said it was easily the best pitch he'd played on, although it's no surprise considering he is used to Wideopen playing fields.

If our academy is anything like theirs I will be chuffed, it's a real first class setup they have.

Incidentally, Liverpool won 4-1, with two unstoppable goals, both of them mishit, in the top corner. Newcastle got the goal of the game with a top corner shot from outside of the box, this time cleanly hit.

Liverpool's other two were a great passing counter attack finished off with a tap in at the far post, and a scrambled effort that bobbled past the keeper.

The Newcastle team had one hell of a centre back though, comfortable on the ball, great in the air and can hit it the length of the pitch with ease.
