Rebel 2000 Problem ****NEED HELP****

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

****I NEED HELP**** I just bought a Rebel 2000 last month. I took a few rolls of film with it. Now when I push the shutter button the shutter closes and stays closed. I have to push the button again to get the shutter to open. No picture is taken and the film doesn't advance, nor does the flash go off. I took the lens off and reseated it and it worked for one picture, then did the same thing. I also replaced the batteries and it took a few pictures. But when I put it away for the night and tried it the next day, it crapped out on me again. I have a Canon 75-300 lens. Can anyone help me. please e-mail me @ briankbax@hotmail.com

Given that you are using it with a Canon lens as opposed to a third party lens, it sounds like it's a batter problem. Sometimes if the battery power contact is poor, this can happen. Clean the contacts and the battery.

Also, try pressing in the battery compactment door and see if the problem goes away. A few years ago I had a similar problem with the battery compartment on my Elan IIe. Apparently, the battery wasn't always making full contact in the compartment, causing the symptoms you describe. I taped a piece of card on the inside of the compartment door so that the battery would be pressed in more and have never had the problem again.

Another solution is to clean the electronic contacts between the lens and the lens mount.

This is the second time you've screamed for help on this forum. Have you taken the camera to a repair shop?

PS: my car is making clunking noises. Please help!

if you haven't taken it to the camera shop/dealer its your fault. the camera is still under warranty. you might be able to replace/repair it if its malfunctioning for free.
