[ot] won't be around much for a bit

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News - Homefront Preparations : One Thread

Just in case you are wondering where I am, I'll be away for the most part for the next month or so. I just got my 30+ new Sun machines in and will begin the physical install on Wednesday. I'll be doing inventory starting tomorrow to make sure that we got everything which we ordered. After the installation, I'll have to put the OS on and configure then comes the application. What fun. :( Joy, joy, j o y :(

I'll pop in when I can.

Good luck, Apoc. Be sure you've stocked lots of 'Dew and Twinkies. (heh-heh)

Y'all don't drink Mello Yello there? It's all they drink here.

-- Anonymous, April 10, 2002

Isn't that something to do with the car racing?

-- Anonymous, April 10, 2002

I think they drink it there too. Sweetie says the women wear tube tops and toss gnawed fried chicken bones over their shoulder at the races. He's never been so I don't know how he knows. Maybe he made it up but it sounds about right.

Races... it's BEER. Some people (men and women) do throw chicken bones, and sometimes at the racecar. (Did you know that racecar spelled backwards is racecar?)

As for me, I'll pass on the Mello Yello, stick to my water.

Just got the last of it all uncrated. One solid day of inventory, two days of uncrating. If the forum wasn't down yesterday, I was going to post the IP number to one of the data centers so that you could all watch me. LOL

I was in the second data center today, and no camera in there. I'll try to give ya a heads up next time I'm in the spotlight so that I can break your monitors. (If you are that brave!)

Cool! Would like to see that!

Yes, of course, would be beer, wouldn't it?

OG,

If you're interested, go to 157.142.122.219 off and on during the day. I just spoke to the install techs and they will be at my building at 9am. Our first stop will be the other data center, so at the earliest (if at all today) it will be the afternoon. I'll try to keep you informed. BTW, I have on a black shirt and my hair is in a bun with a bow.

* * * WARNING * * * your monitor may be broken after looking.

lol

It's dark in there. They treat you like a mushroom, eh? LOL

btw, I have my duct tape handy for the monitor, just in case...

-- Anonymous, April 12, 2002

Some guy just came in and turned on the lights at 1:23 your time. He left a briefcase on the floor next to the two white monitors.

-- Anonymous, April 12, 2002

Latest update, the earliest that I'll be over in that data center (probably) will be around 4:00 eastern or 3:00 central. I'm not sure if I'll make it at all today or not. Looking at my watch (currently 1:40 central), it is very doubtful that you'll see me grace your screen today.

The tech guys are currently gone to lunch and to get a huge lift to lift the large machines into the racks. We're going to do the secondary data center first due to there being a third person to help them today instead of just the two. The lift is huge and they have to carry it down about 15 stairs for the 2nd data center. We'll be able to roll it into the primary data center.

Barefoot, it may take more than duct tape to repair your monitor. LOL

Well, my dear, you do your thing. I have to get ready for work now.

Hope you get some of tomorrow off! It being Saturday and all. I realize that companies don't recognize certain days of the week, they expect us to work all eight of them.

the suit is working away at one of the monitors.

See ya round.

[I'll put baling wire on the shopping list for tomorrow, just in case.] LOL

Barefoot,

Sorry I didn't give a quick link.

I won't be in there this weekend, so you don't have to keep looking.

It should be Monday morning around 9am Central.

Shucks, apoc, I could have gone into your post and made it a hot link, I was just too lazy.

Then this morning I was too tired do that or paste it in, so I just made one.

It isn't like you don't have enough on your mind already! I mean, hubby deployed, getting bit by the invisible biter, and all that work to look forward to on Monday!

Barefoot,

It's almost 9am central, and I am currently in the room, if you really want to see me. I've got black jeans on and a white shirt. My hair is up in a pony tail.

Not sure how long I'll acutally be here, as I have yet to hear from the tech. I think that we'll first have to go over to the other data center to finish up some things there, as I don't see the lift here.

Poof... I'm gone

-- Anonymous, April 15, 2002

Doesn't it feel weird knowing that any of us could look in on you, Apoc?

-- Anonymous, April 15, 2002

Meemur,

Not really. That camera has been there for a while. When situations are more urgent (ie - a down machine that needs to be up yesterday), I'll point it to the wall. I try to remember that it is there. Wouldn't want to be caught adjusting the pantyhose. LOL

Actually, there have been pictures floating around here of people catching a glimpse of someone's butt or something like that. I don't worry about that, cause I don't check out the butts of people I work with. Its just a way for TPTB here to make sure we are where we say we are, and to tell by the looks on our faces if things are going good or not.

-- Anonymous, April 15, 2002

Sorry i missed ya. Not that I want to check out yer butt or anything. LOL

I was sleeping earlier. Now I have to get ready for work. Tax day, ya know...

-- Anonymous, April 15, 2002

Barefoot,

Wear some comfortable shoes for today. Not like you are going to be busy or anything... lol. Hope it is a smooth day and hopefully most tax payers have already sent in their returns. Here's hoping that you look back upon tonight going "Isn't this supposed to be the tax deadline day? Where is everybody?"

-- Anonymous, April 15, 2002

Apoc,

I won't speak for the others, but the weather has been awesome here, and I spend every minute I can in the garden, on my bike, or just sitting in the yard. I'm trying to ignore the news to some extent; there is a lot of disinfo going around right now, and I don't want to get worked up unnecessarily.

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2002

I stayed an extra 45 minutes or so. there was some traffic out front as they stayed open till midnight so the slow people could get their returns postmarked. Some radio station was out there, too, blasting away with loudspeakers.

I was casing 000's, 100's and 200's last night and it was heavy. two other clerks were helping, and the regular clerks came in from outside after midnight and we didn't finish it all until 2 am. Normally it's done and dispatched by 1 am.

I be tired and sore this morning. I managed 7 hours of sleep.

Ever noticed that when you put the + IRS together it spells theIRS?

Barefoot,

Sorry that you had to work so late last night. Aren't you glad that tax time comes but once a year? I know that I am, but for different reasons.

Meemur,

The weather! Since the storms Saturday morning, it has been wonderful. I spent Sunday, and a couple of hours each evening outside just to enjoy nature. (Plus I got a bunch of weeds pulled too!) Disinformation, yep it is there, but from where I sit sometimes the reality of the situation is better left unknown. It had been a week since I had spoken to hubby until he got to call Saturday. That is not normal, and he explained to me the reasons as best as he could. Somehow, I don't think I'll be talking to him very much for the rest of his deployment.

Waving to you all in the camera!!!
