50mm frameline on the 0.58 ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hi all,

I was wondering how big (or small) is the 50mm frameline on the 0.58 body, does it look like (approximately..) the 75 frameline of the 0.72 one ?

My question is simple, I just want to have a idea about the 50mm and the 0.58 body.. Since I cannot find any 0.58 on my small town :-)

thanks in advance,

Best regards,

Simon, click on this link:

That help you?

Well, it doesn't seem to work (surprise).

Try this. Go to www.leica-camera.com and click on "M system", then click on "M6 TTL Cameras", then click on "Viewfinder versions".

When you have it, on the right of the screen it will say "To get a closer look at the different viewfinder versions as shown below please click on this link."

When you do, you'll have a nice big picture of all the different versions with framelines. That should help you.

Phew!

The 50mm frame on a .58 gives me a "short telephoto" feeling. The visual angle is almost identical to the 75mm frame on a .72.

.58/.72x75mm=60.41mm

So comparing the 75 marks in the .72 and .58 means the .58 magnification for the 75 equivalent would be at about 60mm. Too my eye, the 50 frame mark in the .58 is not as small as the 75mm in the .72, and that is what these numbers bear out. If the .58 had marks for a 60mm lens, then those would be equivalent to the 75 marks in the .72.

There was an extraneous space in the URL given. http://www.leica-camera.com/ produkte/msystem/m6ttl/sucher/beispiel/index.html should work properly.

Looking at the comparisons, I remain happy that I have the .72x viewfinder rather than the wider .58x. Seems to me that the .58x is mostly advantageous for use of the 28mm framelines.

Godfrey,

I think the demo of the finders on the Leica site is a little misleading, especially if you wear glasses. The .58 50mm marks do look like a telephoto. But , with glasses, I never see as much of the whole frame as these examples show. I guess a .58 has the whole 24mm look to it as here, but I'd never know it. With glasses, if you shoot with the 28 or 35, the .58 is great. And the 50, which I use a lot, too, isn't too small. Lots of action space around it, but still comfortable....

I find, looking at the viewfinder images, that you have to look carefully at the meter indicators to get the sense of scale for what you actually see through the viewfinder.
