I heard of a developer called beetler or beautler. Something similar. It consists of two parts: A and B. You bath the film in bath A and then in bath B. Then you stop and fix as normal. I did have the formula. Does anybody know this process? I gather that because the two parts A and B are never mixed, the chemicals never "wear out".

I think you are referring to the Beutler formula, which is a high acutance (Rodinal family) developer. This is not (IIRC) a 2 bath developer.

May you confuse it with Stoeckler formula, (or divided D-23) which IS a 2 bath process.

Umm... Actually, I think I was referring to Dr. Beer's formula. An aged chemist told me of the formula years ago. Unfortunately the slip of paper upon which it was written that was pinned to my bedroom wall some 15 years ago, has now vanished. I suspect that the aged chemist in now making photographic developers alongside the photographic greats now.

Beers Two Solution Formula is a Two-Solution paper developer. It is listed in AA "The Print", section appendixes. This nice site list the formula too:

I have the Dr Beers that I can send you a printable PDF of the recipe. Great print developer but don't expect to much on the contrast changes. You'll get maybe 1.5 grades difference from soft to hard. Beutler's is a nice film developer also and I think I have a formula for that too.
