Newcastle v QPR

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Accidentally i found a MATCH OF THE DAY recording of us v QPR from the 95-96 season. All i can say is that some things were totally noticeable straight away. Albert was by far and away a better defender than anything we have now. Ginola was superior to Robert, some of his touches and link up plays were sublime. Ferdinand was aeons better than Cort and Beardsley was better than i remember. Now we have a great little side, but sorry, we aren't up to what we were, and i honestly thought we were! Yes QPR weren't Man U, but Man U v us from that same year was on the same vid. and we were awesome in that game despite losing 1-0. Ferdinand, Beardsley, Ginola and Albert made that team. Dyer and Given would get into that team, but the rest would make great subs. You might remember Beardsleys 2nd goal in that game, class or what! One thing we have over that side is youth... ramble over.

some quotes attributed to KK, i think its looking good for City

"We have got some great players here already so, if I am going to better them, they are going to have to be proven top-class players. "It looks as though we will be able to attract them, because people are starting to hear about Manchester City. "Not every player can sign for Manchester United or Leeds United. We will get the very best players here. "I have got some money to spend, and there are a lot of good Bosmans around in Europe. "We are going into a new stadium, so we know we have got the fanbase, and we know because of that fanbase that we will have money to spend. "We know because we will be in the Premiership and a side that plays attractive football, we will be able to attract good players."

If City win anything with KK I will be totally mortified. He SHOULD have stayed whatever the boardroom shenanigans. Yes he's gone now but if his ability to motivate a team ends with a trophy at Maine Rd or whatever the new place will be called - I will be gutted.

the question is Lynda....

would you be surprised? Not me...

You have to remember that the first division is VERY poor.

Look at how Fulham dominated it, yet struggled in their first season in the PL and may yet go down.

Man City have quite an aging defence and this could be their downfall next season unless they get in some real quality.

No I wouldn't be suprised - it would be typical.

As for City's players - he'll get around £30 mill to spend I reckon. Their new stadium will be tremendous and will bring in extra cash plus there's no outlay for them, they are getting it for nowt off the council. All tnat extra revenue from seats (season after next) and nothing extra to pay.

KK will buy big no doubt about it. I heard the usual suspects on Football Focus today sniggering at a message sent in by a City fan who was saying he thought City would finish in a Champs League spot next season. Would any of us be suprised if they did? After all - look where we finished first season up.

Apparently they've got £20m to spend.

Not a lot considering they need to buy a goalkeeper, two centre backs, two full backs and a couple of strikers.

I recall that Beardsley goal very well. I was at the QPR game. A superb 1-2 between Pedro and Cole with Pedro finishing off with a sublime volley. Wonderful stuff.

Is Keegan threatening any records yet? Three clubs, all promoted in his first full season, must be close to some kind of record.

and what does that prove Jonno, that he can manage to take a side out of the first division? So what? He'll soon be faced with equal expectations of the kind of success he had with us if not morre. The difference is, he's forced into sticking with it now. He has no choice. He'll be branded for life if he leaves City with nought. I'll put £100 on him leaving EARLY!

Yes, the great man has done it yet again. Many congratulations KK.

funny as it is, I don't EVER recall us salutin any other team fer gettin promoted to the PL. the fact that it's Keegan.... is really sad. Next thing you lot will be hopin he beats us, it's ok... cause he's Keegan and all, and hell he can finish ahead of us, cause he's Keegan, and oh what the hell he can even join Al quaeda become mates with Bin Laden and blow up the bliddy world and it's ok with you lot...

because he's KING bliddy KEV!!!!

I'm ill now....really and truly ill, none of you get it at all... do ya?

Sparxx, do you recall the days of travelling down to Southend to watch us get gubbed 4-0? Or Oxford sticking 5 past us? The days when signing Billy Askew was a big deal? Well that doesn`t happen anymore and Keegan is the reason. Of course nobody wants City to beat us but if we don`t win something next year I`d far rather KK did than Ferguson, Wenger, O`Leary and co.

Billy Askew. Those were the days!

How's it going Andy, settling in alright? Have you worked out how to order a beer yet ?(it's a stupid question I know but I thought I should ask). Have you started working yet or is tomorrow the first day?
