Random acts of kindness and honesty

I was in the parts store today. The same parts store I always go to by necessity only. I bought 6 items: 4 shocks for the truck, a rubber bushing and a pepsi. Now the shocks were priced at 19.99 each, and the bushing was 7.99, and the pepsi a buck or so. The cashier rang the items up, and the total came to 52 dollars and some change. I looked at her for a moment, and said "maam, that can't POSSIBLY be right. I wish it was only 52 dollars, but it is really more like 90 or a hundred. You must have made a mistake." The clerk looked at me funny for a moment. Really funny, in fact, like i was putting her to some amount of trouble. She looked the parts over. I said, "The shocks, and there are 4 shocks, are 19.99 each, thats 80 bucks right there." She nodded and re rang it up, and the total was 90 plus. I felt good, and I wanted to say that this forum and its simple honest logic helped me made that move. And I wanted to share it as a reminder that YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE, in every move you make, whether you know it or not. Thank you.

You will be able to look "at the man in the mirror" and like what you see. It is nice to know some folks still have a conscience these days. I know many people would have just let it slide, thinking they are pulling a fast one. But really they are guilty of a crime, even if they think no one knows but them, they are wrong. In case some of you don't know, some places make the clerks and bank tellers make up the loss if their drawer is short at the end of their shift (like when the teller has an extra $20.00 stuck in your cash envelop cuz the bills stuck together). You wouldn't like it if your spouse or child was working for a minimum wage and then had to pay the Company back most of their days wages for a mistake that the recipient knew about and didn't make it right. Been there and had it happen to me. Also been on the other side, and corrected it just like you did. My folks raised us to be honest. Anyway bless you for your honesty!!

Hello. I, too, advise clerks when that happens, and the clerks always look at me as though I was NUTS to begin with, and then they are grateful. I always like to think that they first look at me that way because THEY would not do the same, and by the time we have finished our transaction, they have changed their opinion on that one. It always makes me feel great to model honesty despite hard times...Example is the greatest teacher, right? I'm happy to hear of others who feel the same. WAY TO GO! :0) Judy

Recently, my sister, who lives in Utah, found a Visa card lying on the floor in Home Depot. She turned it in, and the clerk said "And you're turning it in???" She couldn't believe it, and sister wonders if the owner will ever see the card, as obviously, the person at the customer service desk wouldn't have turned it in. I've actually had clerks get downright angry at me for trying to pay what I actually owed, even if done in a diplomatic manner, as if it was too much trouble to redo the transaction! Jan

I think it's great what you did. More like it's nice not to be alone!! I was raised to do that, watched my father insist the bill was wrong when it was. That's one lesson I hope I can duplicate for my kids. I could be a rich man if I wasn't dogged with my upbringing. LOL Thanks for the post, but sign your name next time, no shame in being honest. I kinda prefer honest company, though modest isn't so bad either! Hope the mait job went OK, I always bust shock mounts, or set them on fire!!!!

I agree this is the right thing to do.

Once at the warehouse food store, they applied a 10 dollar Geoge Foreman grill coupomn to my order, when we had not purchased the appliance.

I went to customer service, and they let it go, as they would have needed for me to sign for a credit, and re-check-out.

Now that was a double good feeling.

Last spring my husband lost his checkbook with all his credit cards, debit cards & drivers license inside. He didn't even know he'd lost it!! He got a call later that night from the gas station where he'd apparently had it drop out of his back pocket after paying for his gas. They had it at the front counter waiting for him. We were so afraid that the checkbook would have been emptied out but every single thing was still in there. It is such a good feeling to know that there are honest, caring folks who do the right thing no matter what. The wouldn't even think of taking a reward, said they just hoped if it happened to them whoever found it would turn it in too. Blessings, Kathy
