Feed prices

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Raising meat rabbits for profit : One Thread

Well after much seaching I have found a 17% feed out of Canada for $199.00 a ton .It is sur-gain product. Some rabbit folks I know have been feeding it for a while so I guess I will give it a try .Any comments good or bad about them ? This is far less per ton than I can get in the states and they deliver !

That is a great price. If I calculated properly that is $3.31 per 50 lbs. I am presently paying $8.50 per 50 lbs. I am going to have to look into buying in bulk. My problem is storage.

If it's in Canadian that's even better!!! I pay $6.50 for Nutrena here. Purina is $8 and the show feed is close to $9.

Patty, You got me thinking now. What is the name, contact info for this company. Do they only deliver to NY. I did some internet surfing and didnt have a whole lot of luck finding distributors. How are you planning on storing that much feed? If this is a good product you cant beat the price. Pat Lamar, your input would be appreciated.

Tracy they will delive to my house . I am not sure how far they will go.The feed is bagged and several people will be going in on a shipment, so we will oder every 3-4 weeks . As far as storage old freezers{chest} work great .I was thinking about how to get food to you .You are 8 hours from me .I will look up the contact for you .I pay 8.00 fo nutrena now , so 6.50 is a geat price.

That is $199.00 US , I wish it was in Looneys .

I calculated wrong. $199 divided by 2000 comes to .0995 lb or $4.98 for 50 lbs. Still a great price. And it is even bagged? I was thinking a truck would deliver bulk into a storage bin. Bagged is even better. I am diffeniatly interested.

Wish I was close to New York, if the feed is good sounds like great price. Denise

What is the crude fiber and fat content? Something about this is really bothering me... I'm not familiar with the name, but I would be very hesitant about something that is priced so much lower than other rabbit feeds. Are you willing to venture asking why they are so much cheaper? Is it mostly corn?

Remember... one can't raise healthy, thrifty rabbits on poor quality feed! It sure is tempting, but I'd strongly recommend experimenting on only a few rabbits for a month, first, before commiting to a large amount, if possible.

Parts of Canada have suffered severely from droughts, wherein some areas can't even get hay or straw at the present time. So... what are they using to make this feed, then?

They are sending me a feed chart break down.In Canada they are not required to label the bags like we do in the U.S. Lots of things in Canada are cheaper to buy . Then add in a 50-62 % exchange rate you it equals out . A few people around hee are already feeding it and everything is going fine . Retailers here {US} are selling the feed for $275.00 a ton which is about $30.00 cheaper than I can get a ton of other brands.
