Has anyone go a good tip? I usually ignore the horses and go for the jockey with the red hat. Unfortunately there are three of them so I'm in a fog as to what to do.

And I don't want any of these "never stand down wind of an elephant with flatulence" type of tips if you don't mind.

What race is that one running in Jacko?

For me it's Alexander Banquet - Not influenced at all by being called Joe Alexander!

That's one of the red hat ones! This must be an omen. I'm putting me money on it.

I'm going for Manx Magic. Sounds like a horse with three legs, but for those of us on the inside not a bad bet each way.

I'm very sorry to hear this Gibbo. I'd no idea you were up in court, never mind facing a custodial sentence. Good to hear you can still get a bet on though. Prisons seem to be so much more enlightened places these days.

I've just discovered that my local rag had got all the colours of the jockeys wrong and Alexander Banquet is NOT carrying a red hatted person. Also, in this mornings Grauniad, Niall Quinn has tipped it. Should I stick with my original selection (changed me mind having originally picked Party Politics in 92) even though it goes against all my principles?

I think I might back two!

It's got a red hat in the Mirror, but not the other papers I've got!

I've got Frantic Tan

I'm not even sure if he's wearing a hat or not :)

Double bugger.

So howway then, own up, who got anywhere near ?

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2002

Don't look here. Me and the family backed 4 horses - none of them finished.

Mine fell at the FIRST BLOODY JUMP

Picking horses at random doesn't work twice obviously (I was 4 when I picked the winner randomly)

Mr Jacko backed the one that came second but only had two quid each way on it. Mind you, we got ante-post odds of 20-1 so he won a tenner!
