Dubious Headlines

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

In today's Metro paper the headline is:

Pull out, Bush orders Sharon

This has major snigger-factor for me whichever way you look at it although falling short of the legendary WWI headline:

British push bottles up German rear

My all time favourite football one followed the sending off of Gerry Queen at Selhurst Park - "Queen in brawl at the Palace".

Or the WWII headline

Montgomery Flies Back To Front

Or the Times 'Fog covers Channel, Europe cut off'

Ronnie Gill 12 Sept 02: "Geordie in New York Terror"

my fave is the new york times one, in 1983 the NYPD had a crackdown on Cannabis and they seized a ton of the stuff (they simply raided Gibbos NY flat...) and took it to an island off NJ which had a large Tern poluation. And they burned it. All the Terns had a hell of a party and the headline read "No Tern left Unstoned in Drugs Crackdown" beat that!

the Hexham Courant had a great ad once "TENT - ideal for camping"

Barca or sport or whatever has the very headline today "Rexach, everyone is against you" lovely, eh?

Of course that was 12 Sept 2001....surely not going to happen again.

Slightly off topic but I read the name of a company on a passing van "Flock & Hall" and instantly thought of Benny Hill.

Aye, but that's why you give your body to Gypsy Rose Lee the hundred- and-fifteenth.

You downloaded "Dr Poo" from the Viz site yet? Still my favourite Viz one-off along with "Bertie Blunt, his parrot's a c**t" and maybe "The McBroons"
